Abstract
A deflection and support catheter provided for improved manipulation of elongated medical devices used during percutaneous procedures in difficult to reach situations. In particular, the deflection and support catheters can facilitate placement of guidewires, guide catheters, and intervention devices such as angioplasty balloons and stent delivery devices.
Claims20
A method for the delivery of an elongated treatment device into a vessel within a vascular network, the method comprising:
- loading a rapid exchange segment of a delivery tool onto the elongated treatment device;
- and
- using the delivery tool to provide support for the placement of the elongated treatment device into the vessel,
- wherein the rapid exchange segment comprises a slit that provides for the loading of the rapid exchange segment.
A method for delivering an elongated treatment device into a vessel within a vascular network, the method comprising:
- advancing an elongated treatment device within the vessel over a guidewire through a standard guide catheter such that a distal end of the elongated treatment device is positioned proximal to a treatment site in the vessel;
- positioning a delivery tool onto the elongated treatment device, the delivery tool comprising:
- (a) a rapid exchange segment comprising a tubular element defining a lumen, the tubular element comprising a slit structure defined along an entire length of the tubular element;
- and
- (b) a proximal segment coupled to a proximal portion of the rapid exchange segment,
- wherein the positioning the delivery tool onto the elongated treatment device further comprises urging the elongated treatment device into the lumen of the tubular element through the slit structure;
- advancing the delivery tool distally through the standard guide catheter such that the tubular element extends from the standard guide catheter into the vessel;
- advancing the elongated treatment device distally to the treatment site;
- and
- withdrawing the delivery tool.
A method for delivering an elongated treatment device into a vessel within a vascular network, the method comprising:
- positioning an elongated treatment device into a guide catheter positioned in the vessel such that a proximal portion of the elongated treatment device extends proximally from a proximal end of the guide catheter;
- positioning a delivery tool comprising a tubular element onto the elongated treatment device by urging the proximal portion of the elongated treatment device into a lumen defined in the tubular element through a slit structure defined along an entire length of the tubular element;
- and
- advancing the delivery tool and the elongated treatment device distally through the guide catheter.
