Abstract
Disclosed herein is a valve assembly comprising a male luer end portion and a female luer end portion and a passage for the transfer of fluids extending between the male and female luer end portions, valve means movable between a first position, in which the passage is closed, and a second position, in which the passage is open, biasing means for biasing the valve means toward the first position, and actuating means extending into the male luer end portion and coupled to the valve means to actuate the valve means when a female luer end portion of a medical accessory is engaged with the male luer end portion.

A medical connector comprising:
- an outer housing having an opening and an internal thread on an interior surface of the outer housing near the opening, the internal thread configured to receive a separate medical connector;
- a reciprocating member comprising:
- a generally tubular body with a proximal portion and a distal portion;
- a female luer end portion integral with and extending in a proximal direction from the tubular body, the female luer end portion being positioned external to the outer housing, the female luer end portion comprising an external thread on an outer surface of the female luer end portion configured to receive a male luer;
- and
- a lumen extending inside the reciprocating member from the distal portion of the tubular body to the female luer end portion, the lumen configured to allow fluid flow through the medical connector to or from the separate medical connector and/or the male luer;
- and
- a biasing member positioned between the outer housing and the tubular member and configured to:
- (a) bias the outer housing and reciprocating member to a first position, and (b) permit the reciprocating member, including the tubular body and the female luer end portion, to reciprocate between the first position and a second position with respect to the outer housing.
