A genetically modified yeast, comprising:
- one or more genetic modifications that substantially block beta oxidation activity;
- and
- one or more genetic modifications that increase one or more alcohol dehydrogenase activities or one or more fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase activities, wherein said one or more alcohol dehydrogenase activities are chosen from ADH1 alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH2 alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH2a alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH3 alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH4 dehydrogenase activity, ADH5 alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH7 alcohol dehydrogenase activity, ADH8 alcohol dehydrogenase activity and SFA alcohol dehydrogenase activity.

An expression product comprising at least one of sebacic acid and dodecanedioic acid, said product obtained by contacting a genetically modified yeast with a feedstock capable of being converted by the yeast to at least one of sebacic acid and dodecanedioic acid;
- and culturing the yeast under conditions in which said expression product is produced;
- and
- wherein said genetically modified yeast comprises one or more genetic modifications that substantially block beta oxidation activity;
- and one or more genetic modifications that increase one or more alcohol dehydrogenase activities or one or more fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase activities.
