Wireline Floatation Device and Method

A wireline floatation device, comprising:

• a first floatation module, said first floatation module having a first top face, a first bottom face, a first interconnected side face, a first inner portion, a first outer surface, and a first groove, said first groove extending longitudinally through said first floatation module from said first top face to said first bottom face and laterally through said first floatation module from said first inner portion to said first outer surface;
• a second floatation module, said second floatation module having a second top face, a second bottom face, a second interconnected side face, a second inner portion, a second outer surface, and a second groove, said second groove extending longitudinally through said second floatation module from said second top face to said second bottom face and laterally through said second floatation module from said second inner portion to said second outer surface;
• and
• a third floatation module, said third floatation module having a third top face, a third bottom face, a third interconnected side face, a third inner portion, a third outer surface, and a third groove, said third groove extending longitudinally through said third floatation module from said third top face to said third bottom face and laterally through said third floatation module from said third inner portion to said third outer surface;
• wherein said first, second and third floatation modules are capable of being operatively connected to each other and detachably affixed to a wireline, and wherein said first, second, and third floatation modules are capable of buoyantly reducing the overall weight of said wireline.

A method of reducing the weight of a wireline deployed down a well bore, comprising the steps of:

• (a) providing a wireline floatation device comprising a floatation module formed at least partially of a buoyant material and capable of being detachably affixed to a wireline, said floatation module having a top face, a bottom face, an interconnected side face, a central inner portion, and an outer surface;
• (b) attaching said floatation module to said wireline;
• and
• (c) running said wireline down said well bore to a position where said floatation module becomes buoyant and lessens said weight of said wireline.
