Abstract
This invention relates to an apparatus and method for rowing by generating stored energy in stretchable, retracting members and using that stored energy to pull oars back to a neutral position.
Claims6
A method of rowing a boat in a forward direction comprising:
- a) moving the handles of two oars toward said boat's bow along the inside edges of oar range-of-motion control devices until said oars reach the edges of said oar range-of-motion control devices closest to the boat's bow;
- b) guiding the return of the oars to a neutral position with the force of the stretchable, retracting members;
- c) repeating steps a-b.
A method of rowing a boat in a reverse direction comprising:
- a) moving the handles of two oars toward said boat's stern along the inside edges of oar range-of-motion control devices until said oars reach the edges of said oar range-of-motion control devices closest to the boat's stern;
- b) guiding the return of the oars to a neutral position with the force of the stretchable, retracting members;
- c) repeating steps a-b.
A rowing apparatus comprising:
- a) a boat;
- b) at least two, but no more than 10 outriggers, each outrigger connected to the boat;
- c) an oarlock mounted to the distal end of each of said outriggers;
- d) oars, each said oar comprising an oar handle, an oar shaft removably attached to said oar lock, and an oar blade;
- e) a stretchable, retracting member having two ends:
- i. a first end attached to the oar near the oar blade, and
- ii. a second end attached to said boat between said boat's stern and said outrigger;
- f) a stretchable, retracting member having two ends:
- i. a first end attached to the oar near the oar blade, and
- ii. a second end attached to said boat between said boat's bow and said outrigger;
- g) a stretchable, retracting member having two ends:
- i. a first end attached to said oar blade, and
- ii. a second end attached to said boat between said boat's stern and said outrigger;
- h) a stretchable, retracting member having two ends:
- i. a first end attached to said oar blade, and
- ii. a second end attached to said boat between said boat's bow and said outrigger;
