Connector having coupling mechanism

A connector system comprising:

• a first connector comprising a shell having a leading edge at a mating end of the shell, the shell having threads, the first connector holding at least one contact;
• and
• a second connector mated with the first connector, the second connector comprising a shell holding at least one contact connected to the at least one contact of the first connector when mated thereto;
• and
• a coupling mechanism rotatable about the shell of the second connector, the coupling mechanism comprising an inner coupling nut, an outer coupling nut separate from the inner coupling nut and a movable plunger configured to lock the inner and outer coupling nuts to each other and unlock the inner and outer coupling nuts from each other, the plunger being movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, the inner coupling nut having threads threadably coupled to the threads of the shell of the first connector, wherein, in the locked position, rotation of the outer coupling nut is transferred to the inner coupling nut by the plunger, and wherein, during tightening, the plunger engages the leading edge and the leading edge pushes the plunger rearward relative to the inner coupling nut to the unlocked position to release the outer coupling nut relative to the inner coupling nut to allow free rotation of the outer coupling nut relative to the inner coupling nut.
