Connector having coupling mechanism

A connector comprising:

• a shell having a chamber, the shell having a mating end and a cable end, the shell holding at least one contact;
• and
• a coupling mechanism rotatable about the shell, the coupling mechanism comprising an inner coupling nut, an outer coupling nut separate from the inner coupling nut and a biasing mechanism between the inner coupling nut and the outer coupling nut, the inner coupling nut having internal threads configured to be threadably coupled to a mating connector, the inner coupling nut having a front facing the mating connector and a rear opposite the front, the inner coupling nut having a plurality of ramped steps extending from the rear and disposed at different circumferential positions along the rear, the outer coupling nut having a cavity receiving the inner coupling nut, the outer coupling nut having a detent extending into the cavity, the biasing mechanism biasing the detent against the corresponding ramped step as the outer coupling nut is rotated in a tightening direction, the detent being released from the corresponding ramped step when the connector is fully mated to the mating connector.
