Abstract
Orientation of a patient's tooth is determined from shape data of the patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth. A computational device is used to register the shape data of the patient's crown with model data, based on the determined orientation of the patient's tooth.

A method, comprising:
- determining orientation of a patient's tooth from shape data of the patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth;
- and
- using a computational device to register the shape data of the patient's crown with model data, based on the determined orientation of the patient's tooth.
A system, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor performs:
- determining orientation of a patient's tooth from shape data of the patient's crown and volumetric imagery of the patient's tooth;
- and
- registering the shape data of the patient's crown with model data, based on the determined orientation of the patient's tooth.
