Abstract
The presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods and compositions for protecting healthy cells from damage due to DNA damaging agents. In particular, the presently disclosed subject matter relates to the protective action of selective cyclin dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors administered to subjects that have been exposed to or that are at risk of exposure to DNA damage.
Claims19
A method for promoting the recovery of a hematopoietic cell population in a subject undergoing treatment for a CDK4/6-replication independent cancer, the method comprising:
- administering to the subject a pharmaceutically effective amount of a selective CDK4/6 inhibitor compound having an IC50 for CDK4 that is at least 6 times lower than the compound's IC50 for CDK2, wherein subsequent to the administration of the CDK4/6 inhibitor the subject is exposed to a DNA damaging agent to treat the CDK4/6-replication independent cancer;
- and, administering to said subject a growth factor capable of stimulating the recovery of the hematopoietic cell population.
