[Solution]A polarizing element comprising a film containing a compound represented in the following formula (I) or a salt thereof and a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin having a degree of polymerization from 5,000 to 10,000 (wherein R1 to R4 each individually represent a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or a lower alkoxyl group; and n represents 1-3).
