Abstract
Disclosed herein is an indexing system for a rotor assembly where in one example the indexing system regulates the rotational location of drive rotors. In one example the rotors are configured to rotate about a shaft.
Claims20
A rotor assembly comprising first and second opposing rotors having first and second center axes that are offset from co-linear, the rotor assembly comprising:
- a. each rotor comprising one or more lobes, the lobes having offset engagement surfaces configured to engage lobe tips of the opposing rotor(s) the offset engagement surfaces being defined by a reference axis fixed to a center axis of the opposing rotor and rotating the reference axis with respect to the center axis of the offset engagement surface of the opposing rotor whereas a distance from the reference axis to the lobe tip of the opposing rotor plus a distance of a prescribed gap distance or interference fit determines the location of the offset engagement surface;
- b. a through shaft passing through the rotors, the through shaft having a center portion in part defining a portion of a sphere, the rotors each having an interior portion forming a portion of a concave spherical surface operatively configured to engage the center portion of the through shaft;
- c. an indexing system comprising an index offset surface on the first rotor, an indexer surface mounted to the through shaft where the indexer surface is positioned so as to engage the index offset surface of the second rotor as the first rotor rotates with the through shaft having a center of rotation which is not co-linear as to a center of rotation of the first rotor or second rotor.
A rotor assembly comprising:
- a. a first rotor having a first engagement surface with a first engagement line positioned in a spherical plane where the first engagement line is defined by having a plurality of position derivative vectors indicating the various derivative values of points along the first engagement line where the position derivative vectors indicate the direction of the first engagement line in the spherical plane, the first rotor further having a center axis of rotation and the first engagement line having a plurality of rotational derivative vectors where each point along the line is provided with the rotational derivative vector indicating the direction of travel of each point;
- b. a second rotor having a center rotation axis that is intersecting the axis rotation of the first rotor at an intersect point and is offset from co-linear, the second rotor rotating at a prescribed rotational value with respect to the first rotor, the second rotor having a second engagement surface with a second engagement line positioned in the spherical plane of the first engagement line where at various rotational positions of the first engagement line, as the first engagement line rotates about its center axis of rotation, at locations upon the spherical plane where the position derivative vectors are co-linear with the rotational derivative vectors and further where the coordinates of these two vectors are the same defines a reference point for determining the second engagement line.
A pulse detonation device comprising:
- a. a detonation region having a Schelkin spiral therein,
- b. a mixing chamber in communication with a gas transfer line that provides preheated gas from a heat transfer system, which provides an air conduit for air to transfer therearound the detonation region, extracting heat therefrom,
- c. a mixing chamber configured to receive gas from the gas transfer lines that are in communication with the heat transfer system, the mixing chamber further in communication with a fuel injector,
- d. a diffuser configured to receive a fuel air mixture from the mixing chamber,
- e. a detonation region downstream from the flow of the air fuel mixture, where the detonation region is configured with a detonation location that provides sufficient activation energy to detonate the fuel air mixture,
- f. whereby the expanding, combusted gas of the fuel air mixture travels down the detonation region to an exit location where it is in communication with a positive displacement rotary motion device.
