Abstract
A first wireless device determines whether the first wireless device is in a specified proximity to a second wireless device based on a signal wirelessly transmitted by the second wireless device. Based on information transmitted by the second wireless device, it is determined whether the first wireless device shares a common interest with the second wireless device.

A method comprising:
- determining whether a first wireless device is in a specified proximity to a second wireless device based on a signal wirelessly transmitted by the second wireless device;
- receiving, by the first wireless device, information transmitted by the second wireless device, wherein the receiving is either directly from the second wireless device or indirectly through a wireless network node;
- and
- determining, by the first wireless device based on the received information, whether the first wireless device shares a common interest with the second wireless device.

A wireless network node comprising:
- a communication interface to communicate wirelessly with wireless devices;
- and
- at least one processor to:
- receive information from at least a first and second of the wireless devices, wherein the information relates to at least one item publicized about the second wireless device and relates to at least one item sought by the first wireless device;
- determine, based on the received information, whether the first wireless device shares a common interest with the second wireless device;
- and
- send instructions to the first and second wireless devices to cause the first and second wireless devices to perform proximity detection using a signal transmitted by at least one of the first and second wireless devices.
