Abstract
A fiber optic cable includes a jacket, a pair of strength members, and an optical fiber. The jacket has a cavity, a major dimension and a minor dimension, and a medial portion. The strength members are disposed on opposing sides of the cavity and impart a preferential bend characteristic to the cable. The at least one optical fiber is disposed within the cavity. The jacket includes preferential tear portions disposed between a respective strength member and the medial portion, for separating the strength members from the medial portion.
Claims20
A fiber optic cable, comprising:
- a cable jacket having a cavity, wherein the cable jacket has a major dimension and a minor dimension, and wherein the cable jacket further has a medial portion;
- a pair of strength members, the strength members disposed on opposing sides of the cavity from one another and imparting a preferential bend characteristic to the cable;
- and
- at least one optical fiber, wherein the at least one optical fiber is disposed within the cavity, wherein the cavity is generally round in cross-section, wherein the cavity is not tightly drawn onto the optical fiber and allows some movement thereof, and wherein the optical fiber is longer than the cavity, thereby aiding coupling of the optical fiber with the cavity;
- wherein the cable jacket comprises preferential tear portions for separating the strength members from the medial portion, wherein the preferential tear portions are disposed between a respective one of the strength members and the medial portion, whereby each of the strength members is separable from the medial portion by application of a separation force.
A fiber optic cable comprising:
- a cable jacket having a cavity, wherein the cable jacket has a major dimension and a minor dimension, and wherein the cable jacket further has a medial portion;
- a pair of strength members, the strength members disposed on opposing sides of the cavity from one another and imparting a preferential bend characteristic to the cable;
- at least one optical fiber, wherein the at least one optical fiber is disposed within the cavity;
- and
- one or more dry inserts disposed on sides of the optical fiber in the cavity;
- wherein the cable jacket comprises preferential tear portions for separating the strength members from the medial portion, wherein the preferential tear portions are disposed between a respective one of the strength members and the medial portion, whereby each of the strength members is separable from the medial portion by application of a separation force.
A fiber optic cable, comprising:
- a cable jacket having a cavity, wherein the cable jacket has a major dimension and a minor dimension, and wherein the cable jacket further has a medial portion;
- a pair of strength members, the strength members disposed on opposing sides of the cavity from one another and imparting a preferential bend characteristic to the cable;
- and
- at least one optical fiber, wherein the at least one optical fiber is disposed within the cavity, wherein the optical fiber is a bend-performance optical fiber, whereby the fiber optic cable, using the optical fiber, has relatively small delta attenuation when coiled into a relatively small bend radius;
- wherein the cable jacket comprises preferential tear portions for separating the strength members from the medial portion, wherein the preferential tear portions are disposed between a respective one of the strength members and the medial portion, whereby each of the strength members is separable from the medial portion by application of a separation force.
