Overlapped Block Disparity Estimation and Compensation Architecture

A method for decoding a video bit stream for overlapping motion vector information, the method comprising:

• determining a mode for a first block of the video bit stream, the mode determined by an explicit signal in the video bit stream, and the mode including at least a first mode and a second mode;
• for the first mode determined by the explicit signal, utilizing motion vector information of a neighboring partition for the first block, the neighboring partition being edge adjacent to the first block and located above the first block,
• wherein the first block and the neighboring partition are a same prediction type for the first mode, the prediction type being inter-prediction;
• and
• for the second mode determined by the explicit signal, utilizing motion vector information in the video bit stream for the first block without utilizing the motion vector information of the neighboring partition.

A method for decoding a video bit stream for overlapping motion vector information, the method comprising:

• determining a mode for a first block of the video bit stream, the mode inferred by semantics, and the mode at least one of a first mode and a second mode;
• for the first mode determined by inference, utilizing motion vector information of a neighboring partition for the first block, the neighboring partition being edge adjacent to the first block and located above the first block,
• wherein the first block and the neighboring partition are a same prediction type for the first mode, the prediction type being inter-prediction;
• and
• for the second mode determined by inference utilizing motion vector information in the video bit stream for the first block without utilizing the motion vector information of the neighboring partition.

A computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions, which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform operations comprising:

• determining a mode for a first block of the video bit stream, the mode determined by an explicit signal in the video bit stream, and the mode including one of a first mode or a second mode;
• for the first mode determined by the explicit signal, utilizing motion vector information of a neighboring partition for the first block, the neighboring partition being edge adjacent to the first block and located above the first block,
• wherein the first block and the neighboring partition are a same prediction type for the first mode, the prediction type being inter-prediction;
• and
• for the second mode determined by the explicit signal, utilizing motion vector information in the video bit stream for the first block without utilizing the motion vector information of the neighboring partition.
