Methods and apparatus for channel quality indication feedback in a communication system

A method for communication, the method comprising the steps of:

• establishing a channel quality indication table, with the channel quality table comprising an index column comprising a plurality of channel quality indication indices and at least one column comprising a plurality of entries associated with corresponding channel quality indication indices;
• establishing a channel quality indication sub-table by selecting a subset of entries in the channel quality indication table;
• receiving, at a second node from a first node, a channel quality indication index within the channel quality indication sub-table;
• and
• looking up, at the second node, entries associated with the received channel quality indication index from the channel quality indication sub-table.

A method for communication, the method comprising the steps of:

• receiving a wideband channel quality indication (CQI) index corresponding to a first codeword of a plurality of codewords, and a plurality of wideband delta CQI indices corresponding to other codewords;
• receiving, in each subband, a frequency differential CQI index corresponding to the first codeword, and subband delta CQI indices corresponding to the other codewords;
• determining a plurality of wideband CQI indices corresponding to the other codewords in dependence upon the received wideband channel quality indication (CQI) index corresponding to the first codeword, the received corresponding wideband delta CQI indices, and a differential compression scheme;
• and
• determining, in each subband, a plurality of subband CQI indices corresponding to the other codewords in dependence upon the received frequency differential CQI index corresponding to the first codeword, the received corresponding subband delta CQI indices, and the differential compression scheme.

A method for communication, the method comprising the steps of:

• receiving an average channel quality indication index for a plurality of channel quality indication indices, with the total number of the plurality of channel quality indication indices being N;
• receiving N−1 differential channel quality indication indices;
• and
• determining the N channel quality indication indices in dependence upon the average channel quality indication index and the N−1 differential channel quality indication indices.
