Monitoring camera

A monitoring camera for a surveillance system comprising:

• an imaging and light unit including an image capturing section, a light source, and a lens section;
• a moving control unit configured to vary direction of the imaging and light unit in at least one of a pan direction and a tilt direction;
• an irradiation moving unit configured to variably set an irradiation range of illuminating radiation to irradiate an area which is a little larger than an image capturing field angle of said image capturing section or substantially the same as said image capturing field angle of said image capturing section;
• and
• a communication interface unit configured to transmit the captured image to a remote site, wherein
• the image capturing section is configured to capture an image of a subject therein, said image capturing unit having an image capturing field,
• the light source includes a light emitting diode configured to emit said illuminating radiation, and
• the lens section is configured to apply said illuminating radiation in a direction which is substantially identical to a direction in which said image capturing unit captures the image.
