Abstract
Provided are a portable terminal that generates a haptic pattern and a method thereof. The method includes displaying a menu on a touch screen, receiving an input for generating a haptic pattern through the displayed menu, detecting, using a sensor module, a haptic input provided through the portable terminal, and generating the haptic pattern based on the provided haptic input.

A method of generating a haptic pattern in a portable terminal, the method comprising:
- displaying a menu on a touch screen;
- receiving an input for generating the haptic pattern through the displayed menu;
- detecting, using a sensor module, a haptic input provided through the portable terminal;
- and
- generating the haptic pattern based on the provided haptic input.

A portable terminal that generates a haptic pattern, the portable terminal comprising:
- a touch screen configured to display a menu for generating a haptic pattern;
- a sensor module;
- and
- a controller configured to control generation of a haptic pattern based on an input for generating a haptic pattern, which is input through the displayed menu, and at least one haptic input from among tapping on the portable terminal and shaking the portable terminal, which is input through the portable terminal and is detected by the sensor module.
