Abstract
An optically variable security element for securing valuable articles has an optically variable color layer. The optically variable color layer includes a plurality of microcapsules, each of which exhibits a capsule shell, a carrier liquid enclosed in the capsule shell, and at least one optically variable and magnetically alignable pigment that is substantially freely rotatable in the microcapsule and reversibly alignable by an external magnetic field, and that is developed to be multilayer having at least one magnetic layer and having at least one non-magnetic layer.

An optically variable security element for securing valuable articles, having an optically variable color layer, wherein the optically variable color layer includes a plurality of microcapsules, each of which exhibits a capsule shell, a carrier liquid enclosed in the capsule shell, and at least one optically variable and magnetically alignable pigment that is substantially freely rotatable in the microcapsule and reversibly alignable by an external magnetic field, and that is developed to be multilayer having at least one magnetic layer and having at least one non-magnetic layer.
A method for manufacturing an optically variable security element for securing valuable articles, in which there is applied to a substrate an optically variable color layer that includes a plurality of microcapsules, each of which exhibits a capsule shell, a carrier liquid enclosed in the capsule shell, and at least one optically variable and magnetically alignable pigment that is substantially freely rotatable in the microcapsule and reversibly alignable by an external magnetic field, and that is developed to be multilayer having at least one magnetic layer and having at least one non-magnetic layer.
A data carrier having an optically variable security element for securing valuable articles, having an optically variable color layer, wherein the optically variable color layer includes a plurality of microcapsules, each of which exhibits a capsule shell, a carrier liquid enclosed in the capsule shell, and at least one optically variable and magnetically alignable pigment that is substantially freely rotatable in the microcapsule and reversibly alignable by an external magnetic field, and that is developed to be multilayer having at least one magnetic layer and having at least one non-magnetic layer. or having a security arrangement with a verification element having a magnetic region, the security element and the verification element of the security arrangement being geometrically arranged on the data carrier in such a way that the security element is bringable over the verification element by bending or folding the data carrier.
