## Abstract

According to one aspect of the present invention, a system and methodology is provided which controls whether or not content is permitted to be transmitted from a source device depending upon the nature of the content and/or other factors more fully described herein. Source devices may include devices such as mobile phones, tablets, netbooks, laptops, desktop computers, and any other devices which are capable of transmitting content which is resident on such device. As an example, inappropriate photographs may be identified by the system of the present invention, and when a user attempts to transmit one or more of these photographs, the system will prevent the user from doing so.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A content control system for selectively limiting or preventing the transmission of specific content comprising:
a content evaluation engine for analysing source content intended to be transmitted;
content control criteria information comprising a set of criteria data which is applied to said source content by said content evaluation engine to determine whether said source content is permitted to be transmitted;
a censorship control function for managing the treatment of said source content depending upon instructions from said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said content control system resides on a mobile device and said source content intended to be transmitted is intended to be transmitted to another mobile device.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 further comprising a display function for notifying a user that said source content will not be transmitted as is based on a determination by said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said treatment of said source content comprises transmitting said source content as is based upon a determination by said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said treatment of said source content comprises transmitting said source content in a truncated form based upon a determination by said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said treatment of said source content comprises transmitting said source content in a modified form based upon a determination by said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said treatment of said source content comprises transmitting said source content in a form that is both modified and truncated based upon a determination by said content evaluation engine.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said set of criteria data includes destination device type criteria that is used by said content evaluation engine to determine the treatment of said source content.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The content control system of claim 8 wherein source content is selectively permitted to be transmitted, blocked, transferred in truncated form or transferred in modified form based upon said destination device type criteria.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The content control system of claim 1 wherein said set of criteria data includes destination application criteria that is used by said content evaluation engine to determine the treatment of said source content.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The content control system of claim 10 wherein said destination application criteria distinguishes between and among emails on the one hand and website postings on the other hand.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The content control system of claim 10 wherein said destination application criteria distinguishes between and among emails on the one hand and social media applications on the other hand.

### Claim 13

A method for selectively controlling the transmission of content located on a source device comprising the steps of:
fetching source content for analysis;
analysing said source content by applying a set of predetermined content control criteria to said source content;
based upon said analysis, determining an action to be taken with respect to said source content.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 wherein said action to be taken includes one or more of: completely blocking the transmission of said source content, permitting said source content to be transmitted as is, transmitting said source content in modified form, or transmitting said source content in truncated form.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 wherein said predetermined content control criteria comprises a list of destination devices to which said source content may be transmitted as is.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15 wherein said destination devices are mobile phones associated with a specific user.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15 where said list of destination devices comprises destinations devices associated with a class of users which all share at least one common attribute.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of blocking said source content from transmission as a result of said analysis.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of transmitting said source content in modified or truncated form as a result of said analysis.

### Claim 20 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of transmitting said source content as is as a result of said analysis.
