## Abstract

Embodiments related to a restricted-use authentication code are disclosed. One disclosed embodiment provides a method of generating a representation of a restricted-use authentication code for detection by another computing device to authenticate the other computing device to a remote service. The method includes receiving authentication information, the authentication information comprising a restricted-use authentication code and generating a representation of the authentication information. The method further includes presenting the representation of the authentication information to a sensor system of the other computing device for authentication.

## Claims

### Claim 1

On a mobile device, a method of generating a representation of a restricted-use authentication code for detection by another computing device to perform an authentication process, the method comprising:
receiving authentication information, the authentication information comprising a restricted-use authentication code;
generating a representation of the authentication information; and
presenting the representation of the authentication information to a sensor system of the other computing device for authentication.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a user input of remote service account information, and sending a request for the restricted-use authentication code to the remote service along with the remote service account information before receiving the authentication information.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein receiving the user input of remote service account information further comprises receiving a user input of wireless settings information usable to wirelessly connect the other computing device to a network, and wherein the authentication information comprises the wireless settings information.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the authentication information comprises information relating to an item purchased by a user.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the representation of the authentication information comprises an audio representation.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the representation of the authentication information comprises an image representation.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the image comprises an optically readable tag.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the optically readable tag comprises a graphical code.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the optically readable tag comprises one or more alphanumeric characters.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising associating the mobile device with the other computing device in response to authenticating the other computing device to the remote service.

### Claim 11

On a network-accessible service, a method of authenticating a first device via a restricted-use authentication code, the method comprising:
receiving a request for a restricted-use authentication code from a second device associated with a user;
generating the restricted-use authentication code;
sending the restricted-use authentication code to the second device;
receiving from the first device an authentication request comprising the restricted-use authentication code;
authenticating the first device as associated with the user based upon receiving the restricted-use authentication code; and
expiring the restricted-use authentication code after authenticating the first device.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the request for the restricted-use authentication code from the second device includes one or more of a user identification and an application identification.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein sending the restricted-use authentication code to the second device comprises sending code expiration information specifying an expiration threshold for the restricted-use authentication code.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the expiration threshold comprises an expiration time threshold.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein authenticating the first device further comprises associating the first device with the second device.

### Claim 16

A computing system comprising:
an image sensor;
a logic machine; and
a storage machine storing instructions executable by the logic machine to:
detect, via the image sensor, an image of a representation of authentication information displayed via a mobile device;
decode the representation to determine the authentication information, the authentication information comprising a restricted-use authentication code;
send, to a network-accessible service, an authentication request comprising the restricted-use authentication code; and
associate a user to the computing system if a confirmation of the authentication request is received from the network-accessible service.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The computing system of claim 16, wherein the image sensor comprises one or more of a depth camera and a two-dimensional camera.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The computing system of claim 16, wherein the authentication information further comprises identification information relating to one or more of the mobile device and an application on the mobile device, the instructions being further executable to associate the device to the computing system if a confirmation of the authentication request is received from the network-accessible service.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The computing system of claim 16, wherein the authentication information further comprises purchase information relating to an item purchased by a user, the instructions being further executable to validate the purchase information with the network-accessible service.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The computing system of claim 16, wherein the authentication information further comprises wireless settings information, the instructions being further executable to configure the computing system in accordance with the wireless settings information to connect the computing system to a wireless network.
