## CPC

- E21B 43/126: {Adaptations of down-hole pump systems powered by drives outside the borehole, e.g. by a rotary or oscillating drive (powered by fluid E21B43/129)}
- E21B 17/02: Couplings; joints {(expandable couplings or joints E21B43/106)}
- E21B: EARTH OR ROCK DRILLING; OBTAINING OIL, GAS, WATER, SOLUBLE OR MELTABLE MATERIALS OR A SLURRY OF MINERALS FROM WELLS

## Abstract

In a well extending from the surface of the earth to a deposit of production fluid there beneath, a system for delivering the contents of the deposit to the earth's surface. The system comprising a rod string capable of being driven by a source of motive power at the earth's surface, including an internally overshot assembly rod at the end of the rod string; a downhole assembly, including a pump and receiver with a shaft extending upwardly from the downhole assembly, the receiver shaft being connectable to the overshot assembly such that rotation of the rod string and overshot assembly drives the pump to push the production fluid to the surface of the earth.

## Claims

### Claim 1

In a production well, a system for delivering production fluid through a string of tubing, said string of tubing extending from the surface to a downhole assembly, said downhole assembly including a pump for moving said fluid from a downhole deposit in said well to the surface;
a drive rod string inside said tubing string, said drive rod string extending from the surface to the downhole assembly and depending from a source of rotational motive power located at the surface;
an overshot assembly; said overshot assembly including a female overshot assembly fixedly attached to the downhole end of said drive rod string, said overshot assembly consisting of a longitudinally extending tubular receptacle, open at the downhole end, with a noncircular contour on the inside surface of said tubular receptacle;
a receiver shaft extending upwardly from said downhole assembly, said shaft being so dimensioned as to fit into the tubular receptacle of female overshot assembly and mate with said noncircular contour of the inside surface of said receptacle, whereby rotation of said drive rod string and overshot assembly causes rotation of said receiver shaft;
a drive shaft within said downhole assembly rotationally connected to said receiver shaft and extending to the rotational input of the pump of the downhole assembly, such that rotation of the receiver shaft by the drive rod string causes rotation of said pump to move fluid in said well to the surface.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein said receptacle has an opening at the free end thereof leading to said longitudinally extending receptacle;
said receptacle having a limited longitudinal travel distance for a predetermined length, less than the entire length, from said opening and having a smooth surface thereafter to the closed end thereof.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein the interior surface of said receptacle is other than a circular cross section.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein said stab-in rod has a cross section which is compatible with the interior surface of said receptacle.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein said free end opening is flared.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein said stab-in rod has a free end thereof which is tapered.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, wherein said stab-in rod has a free end thereof which is tapered.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein said receptacle terminates in a cushioning spring.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein said receptacle is a length exceeding the length of said stab-in rod.

### Claim 10 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein said receptacle terminates in a cushioning spring.

### Claim 11 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein said free end opening is tapered.

### Claim 12 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2, wherein said free end opening is tapered.
