## Abstract

A method of reclaiming disturbed land including designating an area of land with propagules as a source area and collecting a portion of the propagules from the area. A portion of the propagules are distributed on disturbed land. Propagules are collected by taking cores or elongate sections of material from the source area using cutting elements such as core tubings or cutting discs.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of reclaiming disturbed land, comprising the steps of:
designating an area of land comprising propagules as a source area;
collecting a portion of the propagules from the source area;
distributing the portion of the propagules on the disturbed land.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of the propagules are collected from 20% or less of the source area.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the portion of the propagules are collected from 10% or less of the source area.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of collecting a further portion of the propagules from the source area after a period of recovery time.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein collecting a portion of the propagules comprises collecting propagules using a coring tube.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein collecting a portion of the propagules comprises collecting propagules using cutting discs.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the propagules comprise at least one of seeds, roots, rhizomes, seedlings, and soil fauna.

### Claim 8

An apparatus for collecting propagules, comprising:
a plurality of coring tubes carried by a tube carrier, the tube carrier introducing the coring tubes into a ground surface to collect propagules from the ground surface;
a receiver for receiving the propagules collected by the coring tubes.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the tube carrier comprises a rolling vessel.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the tube carrier comprises protective protrusions adjacent to the coring tubes.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the coring tubes extend between 5 and 15 cm from the tube carrier.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the propagules comprise at least one of seeds, roots, rhizomes, seedlings, and soil fauna.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the coring tubes comprise 10% or less of the surface area of a collection portion of the tube carrier.

### Claim 14

An apparatus for collecting propagules, comprising:
one or more pairs of cutting discs comprising a first disc and a second disc, the first disc and the second disc being angled relative to the other disc such that each pair of cutting discs cuts an elongate section of material from a ground surface and lifts the elongate section of material above ground, the elongate section comprising propagules; and
a receiver for receiving the propagules collected by the one or more pairs of cutting discs.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the one or more pairs of cutting discs cut an elongate section of material that is between 5 and 15 cm wide.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The apparatus of claim 14, comprising a plurality of pairs of cutting discs carried by the disc carrier, the pairs of cutting discs being at least 5 times greater than the width of the elongate section of material cut by the pair of cutting discs.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the propagules comprise at least one of seeds, roots, rhizomes, seedlings, and soil fauna.

### Claim 18 (depends on 14)

The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the second disc trails the first disc.

### Claim 19 (depends on 14)

The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the first disc is straight relative to the direction of travel, and the second disc is curved relative to the direction of travel.

### Claim 20

An apparatus for collecting propagules, comprising:
a plurality of cutting elements spaced in a direction perpendicular to a direction of travel, the cutting elements cutting an elongate section of material from a ground surface while leaving the ground surface outside the elongate section of material and between cutting elements undisturbed, the cutting elements being shaped to lift the cut elongate section of material out from the ground; and
a receiver for receiving the elongate section of material cut by the cutting elements.

### Claim 21

The apparatus of 20, wherein each cutting element comprises two or more cooperating elements.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the cooperating elements are discs.

### Claim 23 (depends on 22)

The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the second disc trails the first disc.

### Claim 24 (depends on 23)

The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the first disc is straight relative to the direction of travel, and the second disc is curved relative to the direction of travel.

### Claim 25 (depends on 20)

The apparatus of claim 20, wherein each cutting element cuts an elongate section of material that is between 5 and 15 cm wide.

### Claim 26 (depends on 25)

The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the spacing between cutting elements is at least 5 times greater than the width of the elongate section of material cut by the cutting elements.
