The media management system may capture media in one or more media capture sessions and organize the media according to the time at which it was created or captured. An adaptable media grouping system is included to allow desired media to be quickly and easily located through coarse and fine groupings. The media management system may also manage and share URLs. The media management system may be implemented on various hardware devices, including mobile, desktop, and other computing devices. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A mobile device comprising: one or more capture devices configured to receive a plurality of digital media items, each of the plurality of digital media items having one or more characteristics for use in grouping the plurality of digital media items; a sliding control configured to slide along a predefined path; a display configured to present the plurality of digital media items to a user in the plurality of groups prior to movement of the sliding control, wherein each of the plurality of groups contains a distinct subset of the digital media items; and a processor configured to: in response to movement of the sliding control in a first direction along the predefined path, decrease the plurality of groups such that there are a fewer number of groups; in response to movement of the sliding control in a second direction along the predefined path, increase the plurality of groups such that there are more groups; and after the plurality of groups has been increased or decreased, assign each of the plurality of digital media items to one of the plurality of groups based on the one or more characteristics; wherein, after the plurality of groups has been increased or decreased, the display presents each of the plurality of digital media items in the one of the plurality of groups to which it has been assigned. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The mobile device of claim 1, wherein a distinct period of time is associated with each of the plurality of groups. ### Claim 3 (depends on 2) The mobile device of claim 2, wherein the one or more characteristics consist of a creation time. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The mobile device of claim 1 further comprising one or more communication devices configured to share all digital media items in a user selected one of the plurality of groups by transmitting the digital media items to a remote device. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The mobile device of claim 1 further comprising a storage device configured to store the plurality of digital media items. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the digital media items are arranged in one or more subsets according to their type in each of the plurality of groups. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the digital media items are selected from the group consisting of URL links, audio files, video files, text files, and image files. ### Claim 8 A media management system comprising: a plurality of digital media items; a plurality of distinct groups configured to contain one or more of the plurality of digital media items, each of the plurality of distinct groups associated with a distinct period of time; a sliding control configured to slide along a predefined path, wherein movement of the sliding control in a first direction indicates a user selection of a coarse media grouping and movement of the sliding control in a second direction indicates a user selection of a fine media grouping; a processor configured to: group each of the plurality of digital media items into the plurality of distinct groups, wherein a digital media item is added to one of the plurality of groups when its creation time is within the group's associated period of time; increase the plurality of distinct groups such that there are an increased number of groups, and contract the period of time associated with each of the plurality of distinct groups in response to the user selection of the fine media grouping; decrease the plurality of distinct groups such that there are a fewer number of groups, and expand the period of time associated with each of the plurality of distinct groups in response to the user selection of the coarse media grouping; and assign each of the plurality of digital media items to one of the plurality of distinct groups after the plurality of distinct groups is increased or decreased; and a display configured to present the plurality of digital media items, wherein each of the plurality of digital media items is presented within one of the plurality of distinct groups based on the digital media item's creation time. ### Claim 9 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8 further comprising a communication device configured to share all digital media items in a user selected one of the plurality of groups by transmitting the digital media items to a remote device. ### Claim 10 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8 further comprising a storage device configured to store the plurality of digital media items. ### Claim 11 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8, wherein the first direction is left and the second direction is right. ### Claim 12 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8, wherein the sliding control is presented by the display. ### Claim 13 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8, wherein the predefined path of the sliding control is a linear horizontal path. ### Claim 14 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8, wherein the digital media items are arranged in one or more subsets according to their type in each of the plurality of groups ### Claim 15 (depends on 8) The media management system of claim 8, wherein the digital media items are selected from the group consisting of URL links, audio files, video files, text files, and image files. ### Claim 16 A method of managing media with at a mobile device comprising: capturing a plurality of digital media items with a capture device of the mobile device; storing the plurality of digital media items on a storage device; assigning the plurality of digital media items to a plurality of distinct groups, wherein each of the plurality of distinct groups contains a distinct subset of the plurality of digital media items; providing a sliding control, the sliding control configured to move along a predefined path, wherein movement of the sliding control in a first direction indicates a user selection of a coarse media grouping and movement of the sliding control in a second direction indicates a user selection of a fine media grouping; in response to receiving the user selection of the coarse media grouping, decreasing the plurality of distinct groups such that there are fewer groups; in response to receiving the user selection of the fine media grouping, increasing the plurality of distinct groups such that there are more groups; and after increasing or decreasing the plurality of distinct groups, re-assigning the plurality of digital media items to the plurality of distinct groups, wherein each of the plurality of distinct groups contains a distinct subset of the plurality of digital media items. ### Claim 17 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 further comprising transmitting all digital media items in a user selected one of the plurality of distinct groups to a remote device to share the digital media items. ### Claim 18 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 further comprising, after assigning the plurality of digital media items to the plurality of distinct groups, presenting the plurality of digital media items in the plurality of distinct groups on a display device of the mobile device. ### Claim 19 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 further comprising, after re-assigning the plurality of digital media items to the plurality of distinct groups, presenting the plurality of digital media items in the plurality of distinct groups on a display device of the mobile device. ### Claim 20 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15, wherein the plurality of digital media items are assigned to the plurality of distinct groups based on a creation time of each of the plurality of digital media items.
