## CPC

- G06F 21/6218: {to a system of files or objects, e.g. local or distributed file system or database}
- H04L 9/00: {Cryptographic mechanisms or cryptographic} arrangements for secret or secure communications; Network security protocols
- G06F: ELECTRIC DIGITAL DATA PROCESSING (computer systems based on specific computational models G06N)
- H04L: TRANSMISSION OF DIGITAL INFORMATION, e.g. TELEGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION (arrangements common to telegraphic and telephonic communication H04M)

## Abstract

Text containing files are encrypted by first formatting the files for display. The display-formatted files are then coded to form files indicating the information. The files are encrypted. The coding can determine a distance of a transition between a first color and a second color in the display file, and code that distance to form coded distance information and encrypt the coded distance information

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer system, comprising:
a programmed processor,
a memory storing a text-containing information file, and storing formatting information for said text-containing information file;
wherein said processor operates to receive resolution information indicative of a resolution for a display;
said processor formatting said text-containing information into a formatted display file in an electronic file format which is formatted for display according to said formatting information and said resolution information, to form formatted information;
said processor analyzing said formatted information and forming data indicative thereof; and
said processor transmitting said formatted information over a channel addressed to a client, and to form said formatted display file according to said resolution,
where a first formatted display file for a first resolution is different than a second formatted display file for a second resolution, and wherein said processor operates to automatically reduce the resolution to a lower resolution based on a first analysis.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system as in claim 1, wherein said processor also operates to format said formatted information according to an encryption key, to form formatted encrypted information, by coding distances between transitions in said formatted information and encrypting said distances between transitions.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system as in claim 2, wherein said processor carries out said first analysis by analyzing said coded distance information, determining if a predetermined portion of said coded distance information is the same, and responsive to said predetermined portion of said coded distance information being the same, automatically reducing the resolution.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The system as in claim 2, wherein said processor detects transitions between colors other than between black and white.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The system as in claim 2, wherein said processor determining said distances using run length coding.

### Claim 6

A method of encoding a document, comprising:
receiving a document to be encoded;
using a computer for dividing the document into multiple different areas, each area having information therein;
first using the computer for encoding a first area of said multiple different areas, said first area including text, to create a first encoded area including a tag indicating colors for both a foreground and a background of said first area, where the foreground includes a color of the text and the background includes a color on which the text is displayed;
second using the computer for encoding a second area of said multiple different areas to include an image, and to include first image size information representing an outer size of the image in said second area,
where said encoding said first area comprises setting a size of said first area to change based on the outer size of the image of said second area; and
outputting information based on said encoding, to represent said document.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, wherein said tag includes all of red, green and blue attributes.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, wherein said encoding comprises determining an area in the document where there is a transition from a first color to a second color, and setting said area to indicate a border of one of said areas.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, wherein said receiving is carried out in a scanner.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, wherein said information is output in a plurality of different chunks of information, the plurality of different chunks of information collectively representing the document, and no chunk of information representing the entire document.

### Claim 11 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, wherein said encoding of said first area comprises encoding by finding transitions between different colors and marking areas of the transitions.

### Claim 12 (depends on 6)

The method as in claim 6, further comprising third encoding a third area that includes a hyperlink, that defines an area that can be selected to select the hyperlink.

### Claim 13

A computer system, comprising:
a computer, receiving a document to be encoded and logically dividing the document into multiple different areas, each area having information therein;
the computer first encoding a first area of said multiple different areas, said first area including text, to create a first encoded area including a tag indicating colors for both a foreground and a background of said first area, where the foreground includes a color of the text and the background includes a color on which the text is displayed;
the computer second encoding a second area of said multiple different areas to include an image, and to include first image size information representing an outer size of the image in said second area,
where said first encoding comprises setting a size of said first area to change based on the outer size of the image of said second area; and
said computer outputting information based on said encoding, to represent said document.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system as in claim 13, wherein said first encoding comprises determining an area in the document where there is a transition from a first color to a second color, and setting said area to indicate a border of one said first area.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system as in claim 13, wherein said computer includes a scanner, receiving said document.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The system as in claim 13, wherein said information is output in a plurality of different chunks of information, the plurality of different chunks of information collectively representing the document, and no chunk of information representing the entire document.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The system as in claim 13, wherein said first encoding of said first area comprises encoding by finding transitions between different colors and marking areas of the transitions.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The system as in claim 13, further comprising third encoding a third area that includes a hyperlink, that defines an area that can be selected to select the hyperlink.
