## Abstract

A data storage network is provided. The network includes a client connected to the data storage network; a plurality nodes on the data storage network, wherein each data node has two or more RAID controllers, wherein a first RAID controller of a first node is configured to receive a data storage request from the client and to generate RAID parity data on a data set received from the client, and to store all of the generated RAID parity data on a single node of the plurality of nodes.

## Claims

### Claim 1

(canceled)

### Claim 2

A data storage system comprising:
at least one node, wherein each node has two or more RAID controllers, wherein a first RAID controller of a first node is configured to receive a data storage request from a user and to generate redundant data on a data set received from the user, and to store at least a portion of the generated redundant data on a single node of the plurality of nodes.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The data storage system of claim 2, wherein each node further comprises two or more motherboards.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The data storage system of claim 2, wherein the first RAID controller comprises a SAS RAID controller.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The data system of claim 2, wherein each RAID controller is located on a separate application blade, wherein each application blade is coupled to a storage device.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The data storage system of claim 2, wherein each node further comprises a plurality of storage devices.

### Claim 7

A data storage system comprising:
first and second RAID controllers being in communication with each other;
first and second motherboards, the first motherboard being coupled to the first RAID controller, and the second motherboard being coupled to the second RAID controller; and
a first switch coupled to the first RAID controller and a first storage unit;
a second switch coupled to the second RAID controller and to the first storage unit;
a third switch coupled between the first switch and the first RAID controller, wherein the first RAID controller is configured to receive a data storage request and to write data to the first storage unit based on the data storage request.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The data storage system of claim 7, wherein the first, second, and third switches are formed integral with the first storage unit.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The data storage system of claim 7, wherein the third switch is an Ethernet switch.

### Claim 10

An apparatus comprising:
a first processor coupled to a first controller coupled to a first storage device, the first processor being configured to:
receive a request to store data;
cause the first controller to write the data to the first storage device; and
communicate, over an Ethernet network, with a second processor coupled to a second controller coupled to a second storage device to cause the second controller to write the data to the second storage device for redundant storage of the data; and
communicate, over an Ethernet network, with the second processor to cause the second controller to read from the second storage device when desired data is not available on the first storage device.

### Claim 11

A method comprising:
receiving a request to store data;
in response to receiving, causing a first controller to write the data to a first storage device;
communicating, over an Ethernet network, with a processor coupled to a second controller coupled to a second storage device to cause the second controller to write at least a portion of the data to the second storage device for redundant storage of data; and
communicating, over an Ethernet network, with the processor to cause the second controller to read from the second storage device when desired data is not available on the first storage device.
