## Abstract

A processor-implemented method, system, and/or computer program product names an object comprising a set of properties. One or more processors define a property as a name of the object, and then generate a name for the object with a naming scheme referring to properties of the object and connected objects. The processors store the generated name as part of the defined property. In response to the processors detecting changes in the referred properties and connected objects, the stored name is automatically updated according to the naming scheme.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of naming an object comprising a set of properties, the method comprising the steps of:
defining, by one or more processors, a property as a name of the object;
generating, by one or more processors, a name for the object with a naming scheme referring to properties of the object and connected objects;
storing, by one or more processors, the generated name as part of the defined property;
detecting, by one or more processors, one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects; and
in response to said detecting one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects, automatically updating, by one or more processors, the stored name according to the naming scheme.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the connected objects are objects that depend on said object comprising a set of properties.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, further comprising:
displaying the updated stored name on a video display, wherein the updated stored name describes said one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
detecting, by one or more processors, the updated stored name; and
automatically invoking, by one or more processors, a function that is associated with the updated stored name.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
determining, by one or more processors, a class for the object; and
selecting, by one or more processors, the naming scheme according to the determined class.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising:
maintaining, by one or more processors and for a specific object, a list of other objects whose naming schemes refer to the specific object.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
providing, by one or more processors, a user interface to the naming scheme;
receiving, by one or more processors, a user input relating to the naming scheme; and
updating, by one or more processors, the naming scheme according to the received user input.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the naming scheme comprises an ordered table of rows, each row comprising a property of the object or a reference to a connected object.

### Claim 9

A computer program product for naming an object comprising a set of properties, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program code embodied therewith, the program code readable and executable by a processor to perform a method comprising:
defining a property as a name of the object;
generating a name for the object with a naming scheme referring to properties of the object and connected objects;
storing the generated name as part of the defined property;
detecting one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects; and
in response to said detecting one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects, automatically updating the stored name according to the naming scheme.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the connected objects are objects that depend on said object comprising a set of properties.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the method further comprises:
displaying the updated stored name on a video display, wherein the updated stored name describes said one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises:
detecting the updated stored name; and
automatically invoking a function that is associated with the updated stored name.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises:
determining a class for the object; and
selecting the naming scheme according to the determined class.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises:
maintaining, for a specific object, a list of other objects whose naming schemes refer to the specific object.

### Claim 15 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises:
providing a user interface to the naming scheme;
receiving a user input relating to the naming scheme; and
updating the naming scheme according to the received user input.

### Claim 16 (depends on 9)

The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the naming scheme comprises an ordered table of rows, each row comprising a property of the object or a reference to a connected object.

### Claim 17

A computer system comprising:
a processor, a computer readable memory, and a computer readable storage medium;
first program instructions to define a property as a name of the object;
second program instructions to generate a name for the object with a naming scheme referring to properties of the object and connected objects;
third program instructions to store the generated name as part of the defined property;
fourth program instructions to detect one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects; and
fifth program instructions to, in response to said detecting one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects, automatically update the stored name according to the naming scheme; and wherein the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth program instructions are stored on the computer readable storage medium for execution by the processor via the computer readable memory.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The computer system of claim 17, wherein the connected objects are objects that depend on said object comprising a set of properties.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The computer system of claim 18, further comprising:
sixth program instructions to display the updated stored name on a video display, wherein the updated stored name describes said one or more changes in the referred properties and connected objects; and wherein the sixth program instructions are stored on the computer readable storage medium for execution by the processor via the computer readable memory.

### Claim 20 (depends on 17)

The computer system of claim 17, further comprising:
sixth program instructions to detect the updated stored name; and
seventh program instructions to automatically invoke a function that is associated with the updated stored name; and wherein
the sixth and seventh program instructions are stored on the computer readable storage medium for execution by the processor via the computer readable memory.
