Abstract
A method for packaging a medication including receiving a prescription for a patient including a name of the medication for the patient and a name of the patient, wherein the patient is one of a plurality of family members. The method further comprises receiving a family member listing from the patient identifying one or more other ones of the plurality of family members, assigning a color to the patient that differs from any of one or more colors assigned to any of the other ones of the plurality of family members identified in the family member listing, and packaging the medication for delivery to the patient including securing a color-coded member to the container for the medication. The color-coded member is the color assigned to the patient.
Claims20
A method for packaging a medication, comprising the steps of:
- receiving a prescription for a patient including a name of the medication for the patient and a name of the patient, wherein the patient is one of a plurality of family members;
- receiving a family member listing from the patient identifying one or more other ones of the plurality of family members;
- assigning a color to the patient that differs from any of one or more colors assigned to any of the other ones of the plurality of family members identified in the family member listing;
- and
- packaging the medication for delivery to the patient including securing a color-coded member to the container for the medication, the color-coded member being the color assigned to the patient.
A method of providing a uniquely identifiable packaged medication to a first member of a family, the family comprising a plurality of members including the first member, and the method comprising:
- processing a prescription for the first member of the plurality of members of the family;
- referring to a family member listing identifying each one of the plurality of members of the family and a different color assigned to each of the plurality of members of the family;
- coupling a color-coded identifier to a container, the color-coded identifier being selected to have the different color corresponding to the first member of the plurality of members of the family as indicated in the family member listing;
- and
- dispensing a medication identified in the prescription into the container coupled with the color-coded identifier.
A system for providing a packaged medication to a patient, the system comprising:
- a family member listing identifying each of a plurality of family members within a family;
- a plurality of colors for use in uniquely identifying each of the plurality of family members;
- a record of which one of the plurality of colors is recorded as being assigned only to a different one of the plurality of family members;
- a medication container for a medication prescribed for the patient;
- and
- a color-coded identifier secured to the medication container, the color of the color-coded identifier being based on reference to the family member listing and the one of the plurality of the colors assigned to only the different one of the plurality of family members.
