## Abstract

A hub assembly is provided for accommodating a medical professional to grip and manipulate two components of a catheter hub and move one component longitudinally relative to the other, then removably engaging the two components of the catheter hub to restrict movement there between. The two catheter hub components include a proximal hub and a distal hub. The proximal hub and the distal hub are configured to removably engage with one another. The proximal hub is affixed to a first catheter member, such as a multi-lumen catheter, while the distal hub is affixed to a second catheter member, such as a sheath. The first catheter member and the second catheter member are cooperatively engaged and concentric with one another. Relative movement of the proximal and distal hubs translates into relative movement of the first and second catheter members.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of removably coupling a catheter hub, comprising the steps of:
a. providing a catheter hub comprising
b. disposing a multi-lumen catheter through the core member;
c. disposing the core member through central mounting section of the proximal hub member such that the annular detent of the core member is distal the distal end of the central mounting section and the o-ring interfaces with the longitudinal lumen of the sealing member;
d. sliding the distal end of the multi-lumen catheter through the internal lumens of the sealing member and the distal hub member such that the hemostatic valve creates a fluid barrier around the outside of the multi-lumen catheter; and
e. translating the proximal hub member and the distal hub member towards each other such that the resilient projection enters the open distal end of the proximal hub member, deflects radially inwards, and returning to its original non-deflected state, thereby engaging with the distal interfacing surface of the catch and coupling removably the distal hub member and the proximal hub member.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
a. filling the longitudinal lumen of the core member with UV-curable resin; and
b. irradiating the resin-filled lumen with UV radiation.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of attaching the resilient projection to the skin of a patient by using a surgical suture.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the catch comprises an aperture in the outer wall of the proximal body member having a distal interfacing surface.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the resilient projection has a tab configured to protrude through the aperture of the catch.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the radially-extending tab of the resilient projection includes an aperture in the protruding section of the tab.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the resilient projection is integrally formed with the distal hub member.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the distal hub member further comprises an outer sheath extending distally from the distal end of the distal hub member.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the longitudinal lumen of the core member comprises a distal section and a proximal section, further wherein the diameter of the proximal section is greater than the diameter of the distal section.

### Claim 10 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the wall of the core member is a UV-transparent material.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the longitudinal lumen of the distal hub member comprises a first expanded section configured to interface with a first part of the hemostasis valve.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the longitudinal lumen of the distal hub member further comprises a second expanded section configured to interface with a second part of the hemostasis valve.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The method of claim 12, wherein the longitudinal lumen further comprises a third expanded section configured to interface with the sealing member.

### Claim 14

A method of using a catheter hub, comprising the steps of:
a. providing a multi-lumen catheter having a collapsible filter attached to the distal end of the multi-lumen catheter;
b. providing a hub;
c. disposing multi-lumen catheter within longitudinal lumen of core member;
d. fixing the multi-lumen catheter within the longitudinal lumen of the core member by use of an adhesive;
e. sliding the distal end of multi-lumen catheter through the longitudinal lumen of the sealing member, the hemostatic valve, and the longitudinal lumen of the distal hub member and into outer sheath of distal hub member such that filer is constrained in a collapsed state by outer sheath;
f. disposing the outer sheath within a venous lumen of a patient;
g. disposing the core member through central mounting section of the proximal hub member such that the annular detent of the core member is distal the distal end of the central mounting section and the o-ring interfaces with the longitudinal lumen of the sealing member; and
h. translating the proximal hub member and the distal hub member towards each other such that the resilient projection enters the open distal end of the proximal hub member, deflects radially inwards, and reflects to its original orientation by passing through the aperture formed in the proximal hub member, interfacing with the distal interfacing surface of the catch and coupling removably the distal hub member and the proximal hub member, thereby translating the filter distal the distal end of the outer sheath, allowing the filter to expand from the collapsed state to an expanded state.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, further comprising the steps of:
a. filling the longitudinal lumen of the core member with UV-curable resin; and
b. irradiating the resin-filled lumen with UV radiation.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, further comprising the step of attaching the resilient projection to the skin of a patient by using a surgical suture.
