The player elects which cards to hold and which cards to discard, if any. Upon discarding any cards, a player is dealt a second set of cards, preferably in the same number as the first set of cards. Subsets of the second set of replacement cards are combined with the cards held from the first set of cards to form final hands of cards. Each final hand is evaluated to determine if it is a winning or losing hand, such as against a standard poker paytable. Awards may be varied depending upon the size of the player's wager and/or the number of cards the player holds/discards from the first set. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A method of playing video poker, by a player who wagers on an electronic gaming device, with a processor and display, that accepts wagers and awards payouts, comprising the steps of: initiating play when a wager is received from the player; displaying a first set of a given number of cards; allowing the player, via input, to hold cards of the first set; if the held cards comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a second set of cards, the number of which is not based on the number of cards held by the player; and forming, in combination with said cards held from said first set and each possible subset of cards from said second set of cards, final hands of cards having a number of cards equal to said given number, wherein each card in said second set of cards is used at least once in combination with cards held from said first set in forming at least one of said final hands. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1 wherein the second set of cards is displayed if a number of held cards meet a pre-determined threshold of held cards. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1 wherein the given number of the first set of cards is 5. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1 wherein the number of the second set of cards is 5. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1 wherein an initial paytable is available to said player prior to the step of displaying a first set of cards and is modified by a multiplier prior to the step of displaying a second set of cards. ### Claim 6 (depends on 5) The method of claim 5 wherein said initial paytable is based upon the number of cards held. ### Claim 7 (depends on 6) The method of claim 6 wherein said multiplier is 1× if 2 or 3 cards are held, 2× if 1 or 4 cards are held and 10× if 0 or 5 cards are held. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) The method in accordance with claim 1 wherein if said held cards do not comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a single replacement card for each held card and forming a single final hand. ### Claim 9 A method of playing video poker, by a player who wagers on an electronic gaming device, with at least a processor, display and input/output, that accepts wagers and awards payouts, comprising the steps of: displaying a first set of cards; allowing the player, for said first set, to hold a set of held cards and discard a number of discard cards; if the held cards comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a second set of cards, the number of which is fixed and at least equal in number to the first set and independent of said number of cards held by said player from said first set; combining said set of held cards with subsets of cards from said second set, wherein each subset of cards is equal in number to the number of discarded cards, to form final hands of cards having numbers of cards equal in number to said first set of cards, and wherein each of said cards from said second set is used at least once in combination with said held cards in forming at least one of said final hands; and awarding payouts for each final hand which is a winning hand in accordance with a paytable. ### Claim 10 (depends on 9) The method in accordance with claim 9 wherein said first set of cards comprises 5 cards. ### Claim 11 (depends on 10) The method in accordance with claim 10 wherein said second set of cards comprises 5 cards. ### Claim 12 (depends on 9) The method in accordance with claim 9 further comprising the step of displaying each final hand. ### Claim 13 (depends on 9) The method in accordance with claim 9 further comprising the step of displaying each final hand which comprises a winning hand. ### Claim 14 (depends on 9) The method in accordance with claim 9 wherein said first set of cards comprises 5 cards and said second set of cards comprises 5 cards and said step of combining comprises generating: 1 final hand if said number of discarded cards is 0 or 5; 5 final hands if said number of discarded cards is 1 or 4; and 10 final hands if said number of discarded cards is 2 or 3. ### Claim 15 (depends on 9) The method in accordance with claim 9 wherein if said held cards do not comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a single replacement card for each held card and forming a single final hand. ### Claim 16 A method of playing video poker, by a player who wagers on an electronic gaming device, with at least a processor, display and input/output, that accepts wagers and awards payouts, comprising the steps of: displaying a first set of cards; allowing the player, for said first set, to hold a set of held cards and discard a number of discard cards; if the held cards comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a second set of cards, the number of which is greater than the number of discarded cards; combining said set of held cards with subsets of cards from said second set, wherein each subset of cards is equal in number to the number of discarded cards, to form final hands of cards having numbers of cards equal in number to said first set of cards, and wherein each of said cards in said second set is used in combination with the cards held from said first set in forming at least one of said final hands; and awarding payouts for each final hand which is a winning hand in accordance with a paytable. ### Claim 17 (depends on 16) The method in accordance with claim 16 further comprising the step of displaying each final hand. ### Claim 18 (depends on 16) The method in accordance with claim 16 further comprising the step of displaying each final hand which comprises a winning hand. ### Claim 19 (depends on 16) The method in accordance with claim 16 wherein said first set of cards comprises 5 cards. ### Claim 20 (depends on 16) The method in accordance with claim 16 wherein if said held cards do not comprise a designated combination of cards, displaying a single replacement card for each held card and forming a single final hand.
