projectors, projector screens G03B) ## Abstract A system and method is disclosed for providing differentiated content to a user comprising determining a skill level of the user, obtaining unmodified content, aligning the unmodified content to a set of content standards, modifying the aligned content in accordance with the user's skill level, providing the modified aligned content to the user, re-assessing the user's skill level based on a response from the user to the modified aligned content, and modifying new aligned content in accordance with the re-assessed user's skill level. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A computer implemented method for providing differentiated content to a user of a plurality of users, comprising the steps of: obtaining a first unmodified content from at least one source using at least one computer; obtaining a first set of educational standards using at least one computer; analyzing the first unmodified content to determine a reading difficulty level; generating at least two aligned versions of the unmodified content, wherein each aligned version is aligned to a reading difficulty level associated with educational standards; displaying an aligned version of the unmodified content to the user; generating questions associated with the aligned versions and subject of the unmodified content; and providing the questions associated with the displayed aligned version of the modified content to the user. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising: providing a first set of questions to the at least one user using at least one computer; receiving a first set of answers related to the first set of questions from the at least one user using at least one computer; analyzing the first set of answers to produce a first reading level associated with the at least one user using at least one computer; modifying the first unmodified content in accordance with the first reading level of the at least one user to produce a first modified content using at least one computer; and preparing electronic message communications to the user via an electronic message system, wherein a body portion of the electronic message communications are customized to the reading level of the user in addition to the modified content using at least one computer. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising facilitating communications among users within the same reading level group using at least one computer. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of preparing a first lesson plan using the first modified content, wherein the first lesson plan comprises a set of lesson exercises related to the first reading level. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein the educational standards is selected from the group consisting of educational standards for reading comprehension, literacy, vocabulary, and mathematics. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein aligning the first unmodified content to the educational standards further comprises the step of using a set of intermediate standards. ### Claim 7 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein aligning the first unmodified content further comprises mapping words within the first unmodified content to a content standard. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) The method of claim 1, wherein aligning the first unmodified content further comprises selecting a different vocabulary and sentence length while maintaining the subject matter of the first unmodified content. ### Claim 9 A system for providing differentiated content to a user, comprising: a) at least one processor; b) at least one input device coupled to at least one network; and c) at least one storage device storing processor executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, performs a method including: obtaining a first unmodified content from at least one source using at least one computer; obtaining a first set of educational standards using at least one computer; analyzing the first unmodified content to determine a reading difficulty level; generating at least two aligned versions of the unmodified content, wherein each aligned version is aligned to a reading difficulty level associated with educational standards; displaying an aligned version of the unmodified content to the user; generating questions associated with the aligned versions and subject of the unmodified content; and providing the questions associated with the displayed aligned version of the modified content to the user. ### Claim 10 (depends on 9) The system of claim 9, further comprising: providing a first set of questions to the at least one user using at least one computer coupled to the network; receiving a first set of answers related to the first set of questions from the at least one user using at least one computer; analyzing the first set of answers to produce a first reading level associated with the at least one user using at least one computer; modifying the first unmodified content in accordance with the first reading level of the at least one user to produce a first modified content using at least one computer; and preparing electronic message communications to the user via an electronic message system, wherein a body portion of the electronic message communications are customized to the reading level of the user in addition to the modified content using at least one computer. ### Claim 11 (depends on 1) The system of claim 1, further comprising facilitating communications among users within the same reading level group using at least one computer. ### Claim 12 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, further comprising the step of preparing a first lesson plan using the first modified content, wherein the first lesson plan comprises a set of lesson exercises related to the first reading level. ### Claim 13 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, wherein the educational standards is selected from the group consisting of educational standards for reading comprehension, literacy, vocabulary, and mathematics. ### Claim 14 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, wherein aligning the first unmodified content to the educational standards further comprises the step of using a set of intermediate standards. ### Claim 15 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, wherein aligning the first unmodified content further comprises mapping words within the first unmodified content to a content standard. ### Claim 16 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, wherein aligning the first unmodified content further comprises selecting a different vocabulary and sentence length while maintaining the subject matter of the first unmodified content. ### Claim 17 (depends on 11) The system of claim 11, wherein the at least one source is accessed across the network and comprises at least one of: a school database, a news database, an educational database, a proprietary database. ### Claim 18 A method for modifying content for reading comprehension comprising: obtaining a first unmodified content from at least one source using at least one computer; obtaining a first set of educational standards using at least one computer; analyzing the first unmodified content to determine a reading difficulty level; generating at least two aligned versions of the unmodified content, wherein each aligned version is aligned to a reading difficulty level associated with educational standards; displaying an aligned version of the unmodified content to the user; generating questions associated with the aligned versions and subject of the unmodified content; providing the multiple choice questions associated with the displayed aligned version of the modified content to the user; and modifying the aligned content based on received multiple choice selections made by the user. ### Claim 19 (depends on 18) The method of claim 18, further comprising generating lesson plans for the user based on an assessment of received multiple choice selections with increasing reading level difficulty. ### Claim 20 (depends on 19) The method of claim 19, further comprising providing an audible reading to the user of the aligned version.
