## Abstract

A method and apparatus for switching a band in a wireless local access network (WLAN) is provided. The method includes transmitting a multi-band switch request message to request switching from a first frequency band to a second frequency band, and receiving a multi-band switch response message in response to the multi-band switch request message. The multi-band switch request message includes a multi-band switch schedule to operate in the second frequency band. Wider coverage can be supported by using multi-band.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for a wireless local access network, the method comprising:
transmitting, by a station, an association request frame to an access point; and
receiving, by the station, an association response frame from the access point while the access point is operating on a first frequency band, the association response frame including multi-channel information indicating a second frequency band on which the access point intends to operate.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the multi-channel information includes a channel number field indicating a channel within the second frequency band.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the first frequency band is one of a first band and a second band and the second frequency band is a remaining one of the first band and the second band, and
wherein the first band is a band of 60 GHz and the second band is a band below 6 GHz.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the association response frame includes Very High Throughput (VHT) capability information indicating that the access point supports VHT capabilities.

### Claim 5

A device for a wireless local access network, the device comprising:
a processor; and
a memory operatively coupled with the processor and configured to store instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause to the device to:
transmit an association request frame to an access point, and
receive an association response frame from the access point while the access point is operating on a first frequency band, the association response frame including multi-channel information indicating a second frequency band on which the access point intends to operate.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The device of claim 5, wherein the multi-channel information includes a channel number field indicating a channel within the second frequency band.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The device of claim 6, wherein the first frequency band is one of a first band and a second band and the second frequency band is a remaining one of the first band and the second band, and
wherein the first band is a band of 60 GHz and the second band is a band below 6 GHz.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The device of claim 7, wherein the association response frame includes Very High Throughput (VHT) capability information indicating that the access point supports VHT capabilities.

### Claim 9

A method for a wireless local access network, the method comprising:
receiving, by an access point, an association request frame from a station; and
transmitting, by the access point, an association response frame to the station while the access point is operating on a first frequency band, the association response frame including multi-channel information indicating a second frequency band on which the access point intends to operate.
