## Abstract

Discloses herein is a system of acquiring seismic date in a marine environment, which includes: seismic streamers towed by a vessel; and means for detecting and/or locating marine mammals, characterised in that said marine mammal detection and/or location means are secured to said seismic streamers.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A seismic acquisition system comprising:
a streamer;
a seismic source;
plural seismic sensors distributed along the streamer and configured to record seismic data representative of a subsurface illuminated by acoustic waves generated by the seismic source;
passive mammal monitoring sensors distributed along the streamer and configured to record mammal related data associated with a marine mammal;
a communication cable for transmitting the seismic data and the mammal related data; and
a control device connected to the communication cable and configured to receive the seismic and mammal related data and to determine a presence of the marine mammal based on the mammal related data.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the seismic sensors and the passive mammal monitoring sensors are integrated inside the streamer.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the streamer is formed of plural sections connected to each other, the plural sections include (i) at least a passive mammal monitoring section that includes the passive mammal monitoring sensors and (ii) at least a seismic section that includes the seismic sensors.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The system of claim 3, wherein the passive mammal monitoring section is free of seismic sensors and the seismic section is free of passive mammal monitoring sensors.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the control device is configured to locate the marine mammal.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, wherein the control device is further configured to monitor a movement of the marine mammal.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The system of claim 6, wherein the control device is further configured to classify the marine mammal.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, wherein the control device is further configured to inform an operator about a presence of the marine mammal.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the seismic shooting is stopped to limit contact with the marine mammal.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the control device is configured to control an emission power of the source based on regulatory constraints for the subsurface when a presence of the marine mammal is detected.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the control device is configured to drive the source to provide a repellant function for the marine mammal.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the passive mammal monitoring sensors are used for acoustic positioning of other streamers.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the passive mammal monitoring sensors are used to provide a repellant function for the marine mammal.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the passive mammal monitoring sensors are used to provide dynamic control of the streamer.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the passive mammal monitoring sensors are used for acoustic positioning of other streamers, to provide a repellant function for the marine mammal, and to provide dynamic control of the streamer.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the control device dynamically configures the passive mammal monitoring sensors to be used for acoustic positioning of other streamers, or to provide a repellant function for the marine mammal, or to provide dynamic control of the streamer.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising:
location sensors distributed along the streamer and configured to provide acoustic positioning data related to other streamers.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The system of claim 17, further comprising:
data transmission means connected to the location sensors and the passive mammal monitoring sensors and configured to transmit both the mammal related data and the acoustic positioning data.

### Claim 19 (depends on 17)

The system of claim 17, wherein the location sensors and the passive mammal monitoring sensors are located in a same section, between seismic sections that include the seismic sensors.

### Claim 20

A seismic acquisition system comprising:
a streamer;
a seismic source;
plural sensors distributed along the streamer and configured to record seismic data representative of a subsurface illuminated by acoustic waves generated by the seismic source and also configured to record mammal related data associated with a marine mammal;
a communication cable for transmitting the seismic data and the mammal related data; and
a control device connected to the communication cable and configured to receive the seismic and mammal related data and to determine a presence of the marine mammal based on the mammal related data.

### Claim 21

A streamer system comprising:
plural seismic sensors distributed along a streamer and configured to record seismic data representative of a subsurface illuminated by acoustic waves generated by a seismic source and also configured to record mammal related data associated with a marine mammal;
