## Abstract

A control of gobos defend by records in the gobo. The gobos are formed by menued shapes.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
defining a gobo as an image as a bit based form that includes digital bits indicative of primary colors making up different parts of the image, where said gobo includes a shaped outer part having a shape which is other than a circle, and an outer perimeter of the image has the shape other than the circle;
translating the image from said bit based form into a YC form that has chrominance and luminance values indicative of said image including said primary colors making up the different parts of the image and that correspond to said digital bits;
dimming the image by reducing the luminance values in said YC form by multiplying each of a plurality of luminance values in said YC form by a multiplication value, while maintaining constant chrominance values in said YC form; and
reconverting the chrominance and luminance back into a new bit based form that includes digital bits indicative of primary colors making up different parts of the image in a dimmed form.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method as in claim 1, wherein said translating translates into a form that uses a same chrominance value for a number of different bits.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said multiplying uses a lookup table.

### Claim 4

A controller system for a lighting device, comprising:
a user interface;
a gobo selection device which allows selecting one of a plurality of different gobos, wherein said gobos are self animating gobos that self animated to change at different times, to produce an output signal indicative of said animated gobos, wherein said self animating gobos include a gobo definition that loads and executes computer code with variables to form and display an animation defining the gobo, where said gobo definition includes an area to hold variables associated with the gobo, and where the gobo is changed at different times as the animating by modifying values of the variables.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

A system as in claim 4, wherein said output signals represent a light beam whose outer shape is defined by the gobo.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

A system as in claim 5, wherein said gobo definition comprises an image formed of a plurality of different layers, said plurality of layers including a first layer which includes a gobo image that shapes an outer perimeter of a light beam, and a second layer which defines a function other than the gobo image.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

A system as in claim 6, wherein said second layer defines a rotation of the gobo image.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

A system as in claim 6, wherein said second layer defines a blur of the gobo image.

### Claim 9 (depends on 4)

A system as in claim 4, wherein said user interface allows selection of one of said animated gobos from an electronic gobo catalog, from which said gobos are electronically selected.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

A system as in claim 9, wherein said gobo catalog is organized according to gobo geometries.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

A system as in claim 9, wherein said catalog includes more commonly used gobos closest to an initial area of selection, and other gobos which are farther from the initial area of selection.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

A system as in claim 11, wherein said gobos which are most commonly selected are determined by statistical techniques.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

A system as in claim 11, wherein said initial area of selection is close to a root of the catalog.

### Claim 14 (depends on 4)

A system as in claim 4, wherein said gobo defines a stencil for a light beam projection, and further comprising a controllable light that projects a light beam whose outer perimeter is defined by said gobo.

### Claim 15

A controller system for a lighting device, comprising:
a user interface that controls separately selecting a first portion of a gobo and a second portion of the gobo; and
a gobo production device, which takes a combination of said first and second portions, and defines a gobo from said combination of said first and second portions, wherein said gobo defines an outer perimeter of a projected light beam.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

A system as in claim 15, wherein said combination compares each of a plurality of areas of said first portion and said second portion, and for each area of the gobos, selects a brightest part of each gobo.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

A system as in claim 15, wherein said combination is an exclusive or operation between said first portion and said second portion.

### Claim 18 (depends on 15)

A system as in claim 15, wherein said user interface allows selection of one of said gobos from an electronic gobo catalog, from which said gobos are electronically selected.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

A system as in claim 18, wherein said gobo catalog is organized according to gobo geometries.

### Claim 20 (depends on 18)

A system as in claim 18, wherein said catalog includes more commonly used gobos closest to an initial area of selection, and other gobos which are farther from the initial area of selection.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

A system as in claim 20, wherein said gobos which are most commonly selected are determined by statistical techniques.

### Claim 22

A controller system for a lighting device, comprising:
a user interface that controls separately selecting a first portion of a gobo and a second portion of the gobo; and
a gobo production device, which takes a combination of said first and second portions, where said combination is a combination that is not a logical “and” between said first and second portions, and defines a gobo from said combination of said first and second portions, wherein said gobo defines an outer perimeter of a projected light beam.

### Claim 23 (depends on 22)
