## Abstract

There is provided a system and method for a kinetically chargeable stylus device for use with an interactive device. The method comprises charging the kinetically chargeable stylus device using one of a first mode and a second mode, wherein the first mode includes receiving a movement of a magnet in relation to an inductor, inducing a first electrical current in the inductor from the movement, and charging an energy storage unit using the first electrical current, and wherein the second mode includes inducing a second electrical current in the inductor from a non-kinetic source, and charging the energy storage unit using the second electrical current. Prior to inducing the second electrical current in the inductor, the magnet may be isolated from the inductor. Further, a movement of the stylus device may be detected using the inductor and the magnet.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A stylus device for use with an interactive device, the stylus device comprising:
a power unit including an inductor, a magnet, and an energy storage unit, the power unit configured to:
be charged using a first mode, wherein the first mode includes:
receiving a movement of the magnet in relation to the inductor,
inducing a first electrical current in the inductor from the movement, and
charging the energy storage unit using the first electrical current.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The stylus device of claim 1, wherein the power unit is further configured to:
be charged using at least one of the first mode and a second mode, wherein the second mode includes:
inducing a second electrical current in the inductor from a non-kinetic source; and
charging the energy storage unit using the second electrical current.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The stylus device of claim 2, wherein the non-kinetic source is a docking station.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The stylus device of claim 2, wherein the non-kinetic source is an inductive charger.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The stylus device of claim 2, wherein prior to the inducing of the second electrical current in the inductor from the non-kinetic source, the magnet is isolated from the inductor.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The stylus device of claim 5 wherein the magnet is isolated from the inductor using a docking station.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The stylus device of claim 5, wherein the magnet is isolated from the inductor using gravity.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The stylus device of claim 5, further comprising:
at least one input button, wherein the magnet is isolated from the inductor using the at least one input button.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The stylus device of claim 1, wherein the power unit is further configured to:
detect a movement of the stylus device using the inductor and the magnet.

### Claim 10

A stylus device for use with an interactive device, the stylus device comprising:
a control unit;
at least one input button; and
a power unit including an inductor, a magnet, and an energy storage unit, the power unit configured to:
be charged using one of a first mode and a second mode, wherein the first mode includes:
receiving a movement of the magnet in relation to the inductor,
inducing a first electrical current in the inductor from the movement, and
charging the energy storage unit using the first electrical current, and wherein the second mode includes:
inducing a second electrical current in the inductor from an non-kinetic source, and
charging the energy storage unit using the second electrical current.
