## Abstract

The present disclosure discloses a method for providing protective coatings onto one or more surfaces of a frangible enclosure of an LED lamp and a lamp prepared therefrom. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to LED lamps comprising polymer coatings on at least one or more surfaces of an enclosure of an LED lamps.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of reducing or preventing luminous change of a light emitting diode (LED) lamp, the method comprising:
providing an LED lamp with a frangible enclosure comprising a first environment contributing to a first luminous output, wherein egress into or out of the enclosure provides a second environment different from the first environment, the second environment contributing to a second luminous output of the LED lamp, the second luminous output different from the first luminous output;
coating at least a portion of the frangible enclosure with a coating, the coating reducing or eliminating egress into or out of the frangible enclosure; and
reducing or preventing luminous change upon breach of the frangible enclosure.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the coating comprises one or more polysiloxanes or polyurethanes.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first luminous output provides a first intensity or flux and the second luminous output provides a second intensity or flux less than the first intensity or flux.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first luminous output provides a first color rendering index (CRI) and the second luminous output provides a second CRI different from the first CRI.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising one or more phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides contained in the coating and/or in the first environment, the method further comprising reducing or eliminating release of the one or more of the phosphors diffusers, and lanthanide oxides from the first environment upon breach of the frangible enclosure.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the coating is present on an interior surface of the frangible enclosure, or one or more existing layers of the frangible enclosure, the one or more existing layer comprising the one or more phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides, and the coating provides containment of the one or more phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides upon breach of the frangible enclosure.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the coating is present on an interior surface and/or an exterior surface of the frangible enclosure and provides containment of at least a portion of the frangible enclosure upon breach of the frangible enclosure.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the coating is selected to control transport of one or more gases or liquids from egress into or out of the frangible enclosure upon breach thereof.

### Claim 9

An LED lamp comprising:
a frangible enclosure having an internal surface and an external surface, the frangible enclosure coupled to a threaded metal base and enclosing at least one LED element and a first environment, the first environment being different from a second environment external to the frangible enclosure; and
a coating at least partially covering one or both of the internal surface and the external surface of the frangible enclosure.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the coating comprises a polysiloxane or polyurethane.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The LED lamp of claim 10, wherein the polysiloxane is a cured, elastomeric polysiloxane or the polyurethane is an elastomeric polyurethane.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the coating is at least partially non-transparent to light between about 350 nm to about 850 nm.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the coating is transparent to light between about 350 nm to about 850 nm.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the first environment is not under vacuum or partial vacuum relative to the second environment.

### Claim 15 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the first environment is one or more inert gases, hydrogen, and halocarbons.

### Claim 16 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the first environment comprises one or more particulates selected from phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides.

### Claim 17 (depends on 9)

The LED lamp of claim 9, wherein the coating or the internal surface of the frangible enclosure comprises one or more phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides.

### Claim 18

A method of coating an LED lamp comprising:
providing an LED lamp comprising:
a frangible enclosure having an internal surface and an external surface, the frangible enclosure couplable to a threaded metal base and for enclosing at least one LED element and a first environment, the first environment being different from a second environment external to the frangible enclosure;
optionally, one or more phosphors, diffusers, and lanthanide oxides; and
