## Abstract

Systems and methods for reducing the energy requirements for carbon dioxide capture are described. Heat from system processes, such as steam condensation and hot flue gas, is utilized to heat reflux liquid utilized in release of carbon dioxide from absorbent solvent.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system for reducing energy requirements of a carbon dioxide (CO2) capture process in a plant, comprising:
a stripper configured to (a) receive a rich solvent, steam, and a reflux stream, and (b) produce a lean solvent and an upper product comprising CO2;
a condenser configured to receive at least a portion of the upper product and produce a condensed stream; and
a heat exchanger configured to receive at least a portion of the condensed stream, and allow for heat exchange contact of the portion of the condensed stream with a heat exchange medium to produce the steam.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the heat exchanger is further configured to receive a first portion of the condensed stream, and wherein the reflux stream comprises a second portion of the condensed stream.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, further comprising:
an accumulator configured to receive at least some of the condensed stream and produce a CO2 product stream and a condensate stream, and
wherein the portion of the condensed stream received by the heat exchanger comprises at least a portion of the condensate stream.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the heat exchange medium comprises a flue gas stream.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1, wherein the heat exchange medium comprises a reboiler condensate.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The system of claim 5, wherein the stripper is fluidly coupled to a reboiler configured to allow heat exchange contact of a solvent stream from the stripper with a second heat exchange medium, and produce a reboiler stream and the reboiler condensate.

### Claim 7

A system for reducing energy requirements of a carbon dioxide (CO2) capture process in a plant, comprising:
a stripper configured to (a) receive a rich solvent and a reflux stream, and (b) produce an upper product comprising CO2;
a condenser configured to receive at least a portion of the upper product and produce a condensed stream;
an accumulator configured to receive the condensed stream and produce a condensate stream; and
wherein at least a portion of the condensate stream is fed to the stripper as the reflux stream.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The system of claim 7, further comprising a heat exchanger configured to receive a second portion of the condensate stream, and allow for heat exchange contact of the second portion with a heat exchange medium to produce steam.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the stripper is further configured to receive at least a portion of the steam.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the heat exchange medium comprises a flue gas stream.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8, wherein the heat exchange medium comprises a reboiler condensate.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the stripper is fluidly coupled to a reboiler configured to allow heat exchange contact of a solvent stream from the stripper with a second heat exchange medium, and produce a reboiler stream and the reboiler condensate.

### Claim 13

A method for reducing an energy requirement of a CO2 capture process, comprising:
condensing at least a portion of an upper product stream of a stripper to produce a condensed stream; and
feeding at least a portion of the condensed stream to the stripper as a reflux stream.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising:
heating a second portion of the condensed stream in a heat exchanger via heat exchange contact with a heat transfer medium to produce steam; and
feeding the steam to the stripper.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein the heat transfer medium comprises an upstream flue gas stream.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein the heat transfer medium comprises a reboiler condensate.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, further comprising:
withdrawing a solvent stream from the stripper;
cooling a second heat transfer medium via heat exchange contact with the solvent stream in a second heat exchanger; and
wherein the reboiler condensate comprises the cooled second heat transfer medium.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the upper product stream comprises carbon dioxide.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising:
separating at least a portion of the condensed stream to produce a CO2 product stream and a condensate stream; and
