## Abstract

A method, apparatus, and kit for adjustment of a construction unit with a rough opening. The construction unit may be a window, door, or similar construction element that requires shimming and squaring up within a rough opening. An adjustment mechanism is included that has a head section and threaded section. The head section engages the construction unit by abutment and the threaded section engages the rough opening by threaded retention. After initial embedding of the adjustment mechanism within the inner surface of the rough opening, the adjustment mechanism is rotationally engaged via a wrench for fine-tuned shimming of the construction unit.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of installing a construction unit within a pre-framed rough opening, said method comprising:
embedding a plurality of adjustment mechanisms within an inner edge of a rough opening;
inserting a construction unit within said rough opening for abutment with said plurality of adjustment mechanisms; and
engaging each one of said plurality of adjustment mechanisms with a wrench in a rotating manner so as to adjust said abutment of said construction unit with said one or more adjustment mechanisms;
wherein iteratively engaging of each one of said plurality of adjustment mechanisms serves to shim said construction unit within said rough opening until said construction unit is squarely secured within said rough opening.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said embedding is accomplished via a screwdriver in cooperation with a corresponding screw interface on each of said one or more adjustment mechanisms.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein each said adjustment mechanism includes a head section and a threaded section.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method as claimed in claim 3, wherein each head section includes a first disk-like surface for said abutting.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method as claimed in claim 4, wherein each head section includes a nut-like structure for said engaging with said wrench.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method as claimed in claim 4, wherein each head section includes a second disk-like surface separated from said first disk-like surface by a gap, said gap having a nut-like structure therein for said engaging with said wrench.

### Claim 7

An apparatus for installation of a construction unit within a pre-framed rough opening, said apparatus comprising:
a head section including
a screw interface for operative engagement with a screwdriver,
a first disk-like surface for abutting engagement with said construction unit,
a nut-like structure for operative engagement with a wrench;
a threaded section affixed to said head section, said threaded section including a threaded surface for retained engagement with a rough opening,
a screw head forming said screw interface flush with said first disk-like surface; and
wherein adjustment of said apparatus via said wrench in operative engagement with said nut-like structure provides support to said construction unit within said rough opening via said first disk-like structure.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 7, wherein said head section further includes a second disk-like surface separated by a gap from said first disk-like surface and said nut-like structure is located within said gap.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 8, wherein said first and second disk-like structures are separated by a width and each have a diameter larger than said nut-like structure.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 9, wherein said width is slightly greater than a width of an operable end of said wrench.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 7, wherein said head section is fabricated from a hard plastic material and said threaded section is fabricated from a metallic material.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 11, wherein said threaded section is a metal screw embedded within said head section.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 12, wherein said head section is pre-molded and said metal screw is heat treated prior to insertion within said pre-molded head section.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 12, wherein said metal screw includes protrusions, said head section is molded upon said metal screw and retained thereupon via said protrusions.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The apparatus as claimed within claim 12, wherein said metal screw includes knurling, said head section is molded upon said metal screw and retained thereupon via said knurling.

### Claim 16

A kit for installation of a construction unit within a pre-framed rough opening, said kit comprising:
a plurality of adjustment mechanisms each capable of shimming an outer edge of a construction unit against an inner surface of a rough opening, each one of said adjustment mechanisms having
a head section including
a screw interface for operative engagement with a screwdriver,
a first disk-like surface for abutting engagement with said construction unit,
a nut-like structure;
a threaded section affixed to said head section, said threaded section including
a threaded surface for retained engagement with a rough opening,
a screw head forming said screw interface flush with said first disk-like surface; and
a wrench capable of rotation of each said adjustment mechanism by way of operative engagement with said nut-like structure such that said first disk-like surface provides support to said construction unit within said rough opening.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The kit as claimed within claim 16, wherein said head section further includes a second disk-like surface separated by a gap from said first disk-like surface and said nut-like structure is located within said gap.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The kit as claimed within claim 17, wherein said gap has a width slightly greater than a width of an operable end of said wrench and each said first and second disk-like structures have a diameter larger than said nut-like structure.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The kit as claimed within claim 16, wherein said head section is fabricated from a hard plastic material and said threaded section is fabricated from a metallic material.
