## Abstract

The invention is a building wall and a method of framing and constructing a building structure such as a dwelling or commercial building, and more particularly a method utilizing engineered, prefabricated panels having insulating qualities and having grooves and channels therein to aid in the framing of the walls, ceiling and floor of the building. The present invention also relates to a building wall assembled according to the method of the present invention. The present invention also relates to a novel insulated panel for use in framing and constructing a building wall for a commercial or residential structure.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of constructing a horizontal wall upon a floor assembly surface, the method comprising the steps of:
a. providing a series of framing members each having a length, a width, and a depth;
b. providing an insulated panel comprising an exterior surface, an interior surface, a top edge, a bottom edge, and recessed framing channels for receiving and pre-positioning said framing members, said framing channels being located on the exterior surface of said insulated panel and being recessed inward from the exterior surface of said insulated panel, said framing channel having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said framing members;
c. inserting the framing members into the framing channels;
d. joining the framing members to the insulated panel; and
e. elevating the panel such that the vertical framing members are substantially perpendicular to the horizontal flooring surface, and the horizontal framing members are substantially parallel to the horizontal flooring surface.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the steps of:
a. providing an adhesive suitable for securing said framing members within the framing channels; and
b. allowing the adhesive to set-up such that said framing members are secured within said framing channels.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the step of:
a. providing mechanical fasteners suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels; and
b. securing said framing members to said insulated panel using said mechanical fasteners.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the steps of:
a. providing an adhesive suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels;
b. providing mechanical fasteners suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels; and
c. applying said adhesive in conjunction with said mechanical fasteners to said framing members.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of providing an insulated panel comprises providing an insulated panel additionally comprising a tope horizontal framing channel and a bottom horizontal framing channel, and an upper insulated course extending from sais top horizontal framing channel to said top edge of the insulated panel and comprising truss spaces capable of receiving stringers.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A building wall assembled according to the method of claim 1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

An insulated panel for use in the method of claim 1, said insulated panel comprising an exterior surface, an interior surface, a top edge, a bottom edge, and recessed framing channels for receiving and pre-positioning said framing members, said framing channels being located on the exterior surface of said insulated panel and being recessed inward from the exterior surface of said insulated panel, said framing channel having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said framing members.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The insulated panel of claim 7 wherein said insulated panel is comprised of polystyrene.

### Claim 9

An insulated floor assembly comprising:
a. a length and a width forming an outer perimeter;
b. a series of stringers running substantially equidistant from each other along the length of said flooring assembly, each stringer having a length, a width, and a depth;
c. outer insulated panels that run along the outer perimeter and inner insulated panels, said outer insulated panels and said inner insulated panels each comprising a top surface and a bottom surface, said bottom surface of said inner insulated panels and said outer insulated panels each comprising stringer channels, said stringer channels being located on the bottom surface of each of said inner insulated panels and said outer insulated panels and being recessed inward from the bottom surface of each of said inner insulated panels and said outer insulated panels, said stringer channels having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said stringers; and
d. said stringers being positioned within said stringer channels of said inner insulated panels and said outer insulated panels.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The insulated flooring assembly of claim 9 wherein said stringers are secured within said stringer channels using an adhesive.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The insulated flooring assembly of claim 9 wherein said stringers are secured within said stringer channels using mechanical fasteners.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The insulated flooring assembly of claim 9 wherein said stringers are secured within said stringer channels using adhesive and mechanical fasteners.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The insulated flooring assembly of claim 9 wherein said outer insulated panels additionally comprise a notch along said outer perimeter.

### Claim 14

An insulated ceiling panel for use in a ceiling assembly comprising a series of stringers running substantially equidistant from each other along the length of said ceiling assembly, each stringer having a length, a width, and a depth, said insulated ceiling panel comprising a top surface and a bottom surface, said bottom surface of said insulated ceiling panel comprising stringer channels, said stringer channels being recessed inward from the bottom surface of said insulated ceiling panel, said stringer channels having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said stringers.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)
