Abstract
A secure active network includes a plurality of secure elements which communicate with one another to share and log information such as identification, location, and user activity associated with each secure element. Secure elements exchange data with one another, and log data received. The periodicity of communication between secure elements, encryption of the information, and the operating frequency in which the information is transmitted and received may be changed if communication is lost between any of the secure elements or if a determination is made that a secure element has travelled outside a predetermined zone. The integrity of the secure network may be verified at any time by comparing the logged information to a reference network.
Claims20
A secure network element, comprising:
- a communications module configured to receive location data from a second secure network element according to a first communications protocol at scheduled communication sessions;
- and
- a processor configured to compare the location data to a reference location data range at the scheduled communication sessions, and to change the first communications protocol to a second communications protocol if the location data is outside the reference location range.
A network verification system, comprising:
- a secure network element reader configured to receive a plurality of data logs corresponding to a plurality of secure elements forming a mesh network, wherein the plurality of data logs are indicative of communications between the plurality of secure elements;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- determine which secure elements from among the plurality of secure elements are configured to communicate with one another, utilizing the plurality of data logs, to provide a reconstructed network;
- compare the reconstructed network to a reference network, to determine whether a secure element from among the plurality of secure elements has exhibited anomalous behavior;
- and
- generate a notification signal based on the determination.
In a secure network element, a method comprising:
- attempting to exchange data with a second secure network element according to a communications schedule;
- storing a plurality of timestamps corresponding to the communications schedule, data received from the second secure network element, and an indication of whether the data was received from the second secure network element, for each of plurality of timestamps, as part of a data log;
- sending the data log to a network element reader according to a first communications protocol, if the data log indicates that a total number of instances the data was not received is below a threshold number;
- and
- sending the data log to a network element reader according to a second communications protocol, if the data log indicates that the total number is above the threshold number.
