Abstract
An apparatus includes a non-volatile memory and a controller. The controller is coupled to the non-volatile memory and configured to (i) measure a rate of free space consumption in the non-volatile memory, (ii) measure a rate of free space production in the non-volatile memory, and (iii) adjust a rate of a recycling process in response to the measured rate of free space consumption and the measured rate of free space production.

An apparatus comprising:
- a non-volatile memory;
- and
- a controller coupled to said non-volatile memory and configured to (i) measure a rate of free space consumption in said non-volatile memory, (ii) measure a rate of free space production in said non-volatile memory, and (iii) adjust a rate of a recycling process in response to the measured rate of free space consumption and the measured rate of free space production.
A method of fine grain wear leveling and garbage collection comprising the steps of:
- measuring a rate of free space consumption in a non-volatile memory;
- measuring a rate of free space production in said non-volatile memory;
- and
- adjusting a rate of a recycling process in response to the measured rate of free space consumption and the measured rate of free space production.
