Abstract
Techniques for collecting information about client devices utilizing IIS logging in a secure and asynchronous manner are described. A method may comprise collecting information associated with one or more programs resident on a client device. A request is generated to access a webpage associated with one or more of the client devices where a query string, including at least a portion of the collected information, is attached to the request to access the webpage. The request to access the webpage along with the query string is sent to a server supporting the webpage for storage within an IIS log.
Claims20
A computer implemented method comprising:
- collecting information associated with one or more programs resident on a client device;
- generating a request to access a webpage associated with the client device;
- attaching a query string, including at least a portion of the collected information, to the request to access the webpage;
- and
- sending the request to access the webpage and the query string to a server supporting the webpage for storage within an IIS log.
At least one computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a system to:
- collect information associated with one or more programs resident on a client device;
- generate a request to access a webpage associated with the client device;
- attach a query string, including at least a portion of the collected information, to the request to access the webpage;
- and
- send the request to access the webpage and the query string to a server supporting the webpage for storage within an IIS log.
An apparatus comprising:
- a logic device;
- a communications component operative on the logic device to receive a request to access a web page, the request including a query string having version information associated with one of a plurality of programs resident on a client device;
- and
- a memory storage device operative to store the request to access the webpage and the query string in an IIS log.
