Abstract
A vehicle has a distance monitoring device, which can be switched between a first operating mode for detecting the distance to an obstacle located in travelling direction and a second operating mode for measuring a distance transversely to the travelling direction to an obstacle and outputting a signal in real time that is representative of the measured distance.

A vehicle, comprising:
- with a distance monitoring device that is configured to supports a first operating mode for detecting a distance measured in a travelling direction to an obstacle,
- wherein the distance monitoring device is further configured to support a second operating mode for measuring a distance transversely to the travelling direction to an obstacle and outputting a signal in real time that is representative of the measured distance.
