Abstract
A surgical sagittal saw blade that includes a guide bar to which a blade head is pivotally mounted. The guide bar includes a bottom bar; an inner bar disposed over the bottom bar; and an outer bar disposed over the inner bar. The inner bar has a distal end face that is curved and that is spaced inwardly of the distal ends of the bottom bar and the outer bar. The blade head has a base that pivots around the curved distal end face of the inner bar.

A blade assembly for attachment to a surgical sagittal saw, the saw having a moveable driver, said blade assembly having:
- a guide bar, said bar including:
- a bottom bar;
- an outer bar;
- and an inner bar disposed between said bottom bar and said outer bar, wherein said bottom bar and said outer bar each has a distal end;
- and said inner bar has a distally directed face that has a curved profile and that is spaced proximally from the distal ends of said bottom bar and said outer bar and said guide bar has:
- a distal section defined by the distal ends of said bottom bar and said outer bar, the distal section having a thickness;
- and a proximal section opposite the distal section, the proximal section of said guide bar shaped to cooperate with a saw fastening unit so that the fastening unit releasably holds said guide bar in a static state to the saw;
- a blade including:
- a base at least partially disposed between said bottom bar and said outer bar and that abuts the distal face of said inner bar and is shaped to pivot around said inner bar;
- and a head integral with said base that is located forward of the distal section of said guide bar, said blade head having a thickness at least equal to the thickness of the distal section of said guide bar and said blade head and having teeth;
- and
- two drive rods that are connected to and that extend proximally away from said blade, said drive rods being connected to said blade on opposed sides of the distally directed face of said inner bar, each said drive rod having a proximal end and a coupling feature that releasably couples said drive rods to the saw driver so that actuation of the driver results in the simultaneous opposed reciprocation of said drive rods on opposed sides of the curved face of said inner bar.
A blade assembly for use with a surgical sagittal saw, the sagittal saw having a moving driver, said blade assembly having:
- a guide bar, said guide bar including:
- a bottom bar;
- an inner bar disposed over said bottom bar;
- an outer bar disposed over said inner bar;
- wherein:
- said bottom bar and said outer bar have opposed proximal and distal ends, the proximal ends of said bottom bar and said outer bar forming a proximal end of said guide bar, the distal ends of said bottom bar and outer bar forming a distal end of said guide bar, the distal end of said guide bar having a thickness;
- said inner bar having a curved front face that is located proximal to the distal end of said guide bar;
- and said guide bar is further formed to have at least one first opening located forward of the proximal end of said guide bar that extends through said bottom bar and said outer bar;
- a blade, said blade including:
- a base at least partially located between sections of said bottom bar and said outer bar that define the distal end of said guide bar, said base having a curved end that abuts the front face of said inner bar;
- and a head integral with said base that is located forward of the distal end of said guide bar, said blade head having a thickness at least equal to the thickness of the distal end of said guide bar and having teeth;
- first and second drive rods, said drive rods being attached to opposed sides of said blade base and extending proximally from opposed sides of the curved face of said bottom rod and said drive rods each have a proximal end;
- and
- a coupling member located in the at least one first opening of said guide bar, wherein the proximal ends of said first and second drive rods are attached to said coupling member and said coupling member is configured to releasably engage the saw driver so that actuation of the driver results in said coupling member forcing said drive rods into simultaneous opposed reciprocation on opposed sides of the front face of said inner bar.
The blade assembly of 66, wherein:
- a separate said coupling member is attached to each of said first and second drive rods;
- said guide bar is formed to have two first openings wherein each said coupling member is located in a separate one of the first openings of said guide bar.
