Abstract
The present invention relates to the field of cardiology. More specifically, the present invention provides methods and compositions for inducing proliferation of cardiomyocytes. In a specific embodiment, a method for inducing proliferation of cardiomyocytes comprises the step of administering an effective amount of an ALMS1 inhibitor.
Claims18
A method for inducing proliferation of cardiomyocytes comprising the step of administering an effective amount of an Alstrom syndrome 1 protein (ALMS1) inhibitor.
A method for inducing proliferation of cardiomyocytes in a patient suffering from heart failure, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease or cardiac injury comprising the step of administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an ALMS1 inhibitor.
A method for treating heart failure, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease or cardiac injury in a patient comprising the step of administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an ALMS1 inhibitor, wherein the ALMS1 inhibitor inhibits ALMS1 expression and/or activity and induces proliferation of cardiomyocytes.
A method for treating heart failure in a patient comprising the step of administering to the patient an effective amount of an siRNA or shRNA inhibitor of the expression of the ALMS1 gene to result in RNA interference in vivo.
A method for treating cardiomyopathy in a patient comprising the step of administering to the patient an effective amount of an siRNA or shRNA inhibitor of the expression of the ALMS1 gene to result in RNA interference in vivo.
A method for treating congenital heart disease in a patient comprising the step of administering to the patient an effective amount of an siRNA or shRNA inhibitor of the expression of the ALMS1 gene to result in RNA interference in vivo.
A method for treating cardiac injury in a patient comprising the step of administering to the patient an effective amount of an siRNA or shRNA inhibitor of the expression of the ALMS1 gene to result in RNA interference in vivo.
A method for inducing proliferation of cardiomyocytes comprising the step of administering an effective amount of an siRNA or shRNA inhibitor of the expression of the ALMS1 gene to result in RNA interference.
