Abstract
The invention relates to a method of treating Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and compositions for topical application of methylphenidate comprising methylphenidate in a flexible, finite system wherein the methylphenidate is present in an amount sufficient to achieve substantially zero order kinetics for delivery to the skin or mucosa of a patient in need thereof over a period of time at least 10 hours.
Claims10
A composition for topical application of methylphenidate comprising methylphenidate in an adhesive carrier of a flexible, finite system, where the adhesive carrier consists of:
- methylphenidate in an amount of 5 to 35 wt % methylphenidate, based on the total weight of the adhesive composition, effective to achieve substantially zero order kinetics for delivery to the skin or mucosa of a patient in need thereof over a period of at least 10 hours, and
- one or more non-functional or minimally functional acrylic polymers having no more than about 5 wt % of acid functional monomers, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, and having no vinyl acetate monomers, and
- optionally, one or more excipients, tackifiers, plasticizers, and crosslinking agents.
A composition for topical application of methylphenidate comprising methylphenidate in an adhesive carrier of a flexible, finite system, where the adhesive carrier comprises:
- methylphenidate in an amount of 5 to 35 wt % methylphenidate, based on the total weight of the adhesive composition, effective to achieve substantially zero order kinetics for delivery to the skin or mucosa of a patient in need thereof over a period of at least 10 hours, and
- one or more non-functional or minimally functional acrylic polymers having no more than about 5 wt % of acid functional monomers, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, and having no vinyl acetate monomers,
- wherein the adhesive carrier does not include an enhancer, does not include an acrylic polymer having more than 5 wt % of acid functional monomers, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, and does not include an acrylic polymer having vinyl acetate monomers.
