Abstract
A method and system for shutting down a wind turbine is presented. The method includes determining one or more pitch positions for one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that a sum of potential energy and kinetic energy in the wind turbine is minimized. The method further includes pitching the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch positions.
Claims24
A method for shutting down a wind turbine, the method comprising:
- determining one or more pitch positions for one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that potential energy and kinetic energy in the wind turbine are minimized;
- and
- pitching the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch positions.
A system for shutting down a wind turbine, the system comprising:
- a computing unit configured to determine a pitch position for one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that energy in the wind turbine is minimized;
- and
- a pitch actuator configured to pitch the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch position.
A wind turbine, comprising:
- a rotor comprising one or more rotor blades;
- a tower operatively coupled to the rotor;
- a halting system configured to shut down the wind turbine, the halting system comprising:
- a computing unit configured to determine a pitch position for the one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that energy in the rotor and the tower is minimized;
- and
- a pitch actuator configured to pitch the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch position.
