Abstract
Search terms are derived automatically from images captured by a camera equipped cell phone, PDA, or other image capturing device, submitted to a search engine to obtain information of interest, and at least a portion of the resulting information is transmitted back locally to, or nearby, the device that captured the image.
Claims56
A method implemented by a computing device, comprising:
- obtaining, via a mobile device, an image including at least a portion of an object, wherein the object comprises a building;
- receiving positioning information from the mobile device;
- deriving at least one search term based at least in part on the image and positioning information;
- querying a database indexing a proprietary collection of data associated with a plurality of target objects including a known target object using the at least one search term;
- recognizing whether the building is the known target object based at least in part on the image;
- and
- presenting, via the mobile device, an information address corresponding to the known target object.
An apparatus for presenting information related to target objects, wherein the apparatus comprises:
- a communication device;
- and
- a processing device communicatively coupled to the communication device, wherein the processing device is configured to:
- obtain, via the mobile device, an image including at least a portion of an object, wherein the object comprises a building;
- receive positioning information from the mobile device;
- derive at least one search term based at least in part on the image and positioning information;
- query a database indexing a proprietary collection of data associated with a plurality of target objects including a known target object using the at least one search term;
- and
- recognize whether the building is the known target object based at least in part on the image;
- present, via the mobile device, an information address corresponding to the known target object.
A computer program product for presenting information related to target objects, the computer product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform the steps of:
- obtaining, via a mobile device, an image including at least a portion of an object, wherein the object comprises a building;
- receiving positioning information from the mobile device;
- deriving at least one search term based at least in part on the image and positioning information;
- querying a database indexing a proprietary collection of data associated with a plurality of target objects including a known target object using the at least one search term;
- recognizing whether the building is the known target object based at least in part on the image;
- and
- presenting, via the mobile device, an information address corresponding to the known target object.
