Digital device configuration and method

A storage device, comprising:

• storage media configured to store data;
• a head arrangement configured to read from the storage media and configured to write to the storage media;
• a flexible circuit configured to interface the storage device to a host processor;
• and
• a channel integrated circuit configured to provide an interface between the storage media and the head arrangement, the channel integrated circuit being mounted for direct electrical communication with the flexible circuit.

A storage device, comprising:

• means for storing data;
• means for reading from the storage media and for writing to the storage media;
• means for using a flexible circuit to interface the storage device to a host processor;
• and
• means, using a channel integrated circuit, for providing an interface between the storage media and the means for reading from the storage media and for writing to the storage media, the channel integrated circuit being mounted for direct electrical communication with the flexible circuit.

A method of controlling a storage device having a storage media, the method comprising:

• reading data from the storage media via a head arrangement;
• providing the read data via a channel integrated circuit, wherein the channel integrated circuit is mounted for direct electrical communication with a flexible circuit, the flexible circuit configured to interface the storage device to a host processor;
• and
• providing, to the host processor, via the flexible circuit, the read data.
