Systems and methods for streak detection in image array scanning

An image scanning system, comprising:

• an input that is configured to receive media substrates on which images are formed;
• a scanning array downstream of the input that scans the images formed on the media substrates presented to the scanning array;
• an output that is configured to receive the media substrates after the media substrates pass the scanning array;
• a data storage memory that temporarily stores information regarding the images scanned from the media substrate;
• a scanned image comparing device that is operative in at least one of a test mode and a calibration mode to compare a first scanned image and a second scanned image to isolate at least one image quality defect, the first scanned image and the second scanned image being a same image presented to the scanning array in two different physical orientations;
• and
• a data output device that outputs information on the at least one image quality defect.

A non-transitory data storage medium on which is recorded instructions which, when executed by a processor, will cause the processor to execute the steps of a method for controlling an imaging system, comprising:

• first scanning a test pattern image with a scanning device, the test pattern image being disposed on an image receiving medium and the image receiving medium being exposed to the scanning device in a first orientation;
• storing first information from the first scanning in a data storage device;
• second scanning the test pattern image with the scanning device, the image receiving medium being exposed to the scanning device in a second orientation;
• storing second information from the second scanning in the data storage device;
• comparing the stored first information for the first scanning and with the stored second information for the second scanning to isolate at least one image quality defect in the scanned test pattern image;
• and
• applying an image defect correcting algorithm to the at least one image quality defect,
• the at least one image quality defect being a streak.
