Abstract
A hand-held device with a sensor for providing a signal indicative of a position of the hand-held device relative to an object surface enables power to the sensor at a first time interval when the hand-held device is indicated to be in a position that is stationary and adjacent relative to the object surface, enables power to the sensor at a second time interval shorter than the first time interval when the hand-held device is indicated to be in a position that is moving and adjacent relative to the object surface, and enables power to the sensor at a third time interval when the hand-held device is determined to be in a position that is removed relative to the object surface.
Claims10
A method for managing power of a hand-held device having a touch sensitive surface providing at least one input element and a sensor, the method comprising:
- using the sensor to determine when the hand-held portable device has been removed from an object surface;
- and
- when it is determined that that hand-held portable device has been removed from an object surface, transitioning the hand-held device from a first operational mode to a second operational mode;
- wherein, in the first operational mode, power is periodically provided to the sensor at a first time interval and the at least one input element provided by the touch sensitive surface in disabled and, in the second operational mode, power is periodically provided to the sensor at a second time interval longer than the first time interval, the at least one input element provided by the touch sensitive surface is enabled, and the hand-held device responds to user interactions with the enabled at least one input element.
